The important thing to understand is that movie gross numbers are a kind of popularity contest, and it is obvious that the intent of the film runs counter to that message. I would suspect that everyone involved with the film can understand right now how Richard Halley felt during his concert. Not everyone had the hears to hear the music he was playing. They may come to it in time, but they don't quite hear the notes right at the moment. Halley left to play his music only for those who could listen to the music.
