Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

    "Let's shock the libs."

You mean, by making a film that wasn't an utter disaster like the first two parts?

Karl Urban has a real job. He doesn't need this and is unlikely to want it.

There isn't the slightest chance in hell that the production can afford any of these people. Think more along the lines of anyone who had a series cancelled two years ago and is getting very hungry.

I suspect she wants as little to do with the future of this trilogy as possible.

Several orders of magnitude out of budget. This is fantasy baseball.

Be real. Why would any actor with any career at all want to hop into Part III of a trilogy whose first two parts bombed so catastrophically?

Well, I know he can take any part and make it his own. I was so impressed with him in the Howard Hughes story,(the Aviator) I studied Howard Hughes and he nailed it. J. Edgar too. I think he could pull this off.

William Petersen, actor that portrayed Gil Grissom on t v series CSI Las Vegas would fit the mold of a John Galt

thanks fivedollargold, I don't mean to seem age-ist but speaking as a woman in my 20's, anyone playing such an important role of a character who is clearly supposed to be in his 30's who does not look anywhere NEAR their 30's would totally turn me off - in more ways than one. Many people are mentioning Brad Pitt, I looked him up and he is turning 50 this year people! Let's move right along, I think there has to be some decent up and coming talent somewhere out there...

Because this will be a lead role, the man cast also needs to be able to sell the film on publicity tours.

I'd really like to see Jeff Bridges in the movie. He's too old for Galt, but perhaps as one of the resident's of the Gulch.

I love Gary Sinese, but he might be too short unless you hire a short Dagny. Toby McGuire is way too young. A lot depends upon the Dagny hire. After all, the book and the films are primarily centered on her character. From a practical standpoint, you don't want to hire an actor for JG that will overshadow her. And, of course, it has to be an actor that is affordable. There might be a really good character actor that could pull it off.
