Why does Galt's Gulch edit posts? "Post hidden due to member score or post score too low" End censorship. We can only learn from high pointers?

Methinks you complain too much. The site moderators here allow a very wide range of views and opinions, sometimes straying over the line of propriety. They have rarely censured (not censored as some want to claim) posters. As has been mentioned, the comments are still available, just takes a bit more effort to see them. This is a punishment for the individual(s) that exceeded the very loose bounds of propriety.
Stop your bitchin' about how the site is being run. Geez, just because you cough up a couple of bucks you think you have the right to dictate how the OWNER gets to run his property. As I said before, if you don't like it, then leave.

If I buy ice cream from an ice cream parlor, and there is an insect in it, I do believe I have the right to complain about the product I purchased not meeting expectations, how the owner runs his business notwithstanding.

"The owner", I submit, is an inapt term. "The proprietor" would be accurate.

Then explain why even when a point is proven and the language is appropriate, there are still points taken away and why on any given day there are a few that are always on top of the points scale. It's an emotional response not an objective response. .

Why are you asking me? I'm just a poster here. I give a few points, but not often - usually only for very witty or insightful posts. I don't particularly care one way or another about them. It seems that some here are so enamored with them that they get very excited to give/receive.
As for being on the top of the points, that's merely a function of having a lot to say, and having a bit of time in the past few weeks. That's about to change, so I'll likely be dropping rapidly and soon.
As for what others give me or ding me, that's up to them. For example, I see that my post above about complaining so much now has 5 points. That seems to indicate that 4 others found that useful, insightful, or agree.
There is only one poster here of whom I've ever made a concerted effort to affect - and that was due to an undue number of posts that were what I considered spam. If you hover your mouse over the down thumb you will see that it says to use that if "this is spam." I felt it was an appropriate use and will defend that position.

there are trolls in here all the time. that is one answer. and r, on an Objectivist-based site, there are those who will down vote criticism against Objectivism-especially if they think the reasoning is faulty. This is more likely to happen when it's clear the poster does not sufficiently understand Objectivism in order for the criticism to be valid.
I'm sure you've thought the same thing in here when you read comments about Christianity that are incorrect.
Usually, those of us who've been around a long time will tell you if they are taking away a point. BUt they don't have to, and assuming you know who is doing it? My experience is you'd be wrong more than right.
I rarely down vote. As a matter of fact, if I'm going to give someone comment that I disagree with, depending on how important I find the discussion-I will upvote it. Then it moves to the top of the thread. You are a valued contributor. You will begin to see your point total moving up quicker the more you post relevant articles and thoughts that encourage good discussion. The more you can tie those posts back to Ayn Rand, Objectivism and the movies the more participation you'll see on your posts -at least until everyone gets to know you better. That's just my take, others may disagree.

If upvotes get you more exposure and people upvote for things they agree with instead of things that add value, it increases the risk of groupthink.

I don't have a good solution, though, other than those who want other opinions just scrolling down to read the less popular posts.

I will be the first to tell you that I am not strong at conveying what I am trying to say especially while trying to choose words that are clear and consice while also putting the punctuation in the right places it shuts my brain down, so I know my posts are not marvelous works and I can clearly see how much better let's say Robbie is at expounding on what he is trying to say. I know my posts will get better, I hope they get faster too. If someone posts something are we not to post if we an alternate point of view ? Are we supposed to only support Objecitvism? I have been trying to use facts, concrete data, and objective analysis even if it doesn't agree with statements or historical evidence left by Ayn Rand. Am I correct to understand that Objecitvists will not give points even if valid or an an alternate point is proven?

People who become too unpopular receive too many down votes, and will have their posts hidden and be unable to vote on comments until their point total rises. This doesn't happen unless one's vote tally goes sufficiently into negative numbers.

Because I offended too many people, and received too many down votes. Unless the tally reverses itself, my posts will remain hidden.

People have always held the mistaken belief that I need an audience to pontificate, however :)

if you are posting nonsense that is one thing. maybe I am too new and have not seen anything out of line. Of course, I watch many networks and then decide.

You've come after my "reformation". I deleted all my comments in the post with the offending comment. At present I am winging it, while attempting to remain civil, as I have not yet been told what to say... upon penalty of expulsion.

Look at your points! You were a valued member. Why risk that with "enrage"? Again, you have not answered what would Michelle have said to your comments this week?

                Michelle who?
                You mean Ms Malkin?
I have no idea; I haven't read much of what she's had to say ever since I tweeted a link to a Jessie J music video and she blocked me. Close to a year now, I think.

I've discovered two self-proclaimed Objectivists to not only be dishonest, but downright deceitful and manipulative.

I no longer care what your opinions are of me, or anything else.

I was wondering the same thing... thought it strange we have to click on the post to see what it is; of course, with the warning of "post hidden due to..." warning, it makes it less likely that one would click; after all, since its hidden, it must be spam. Nichts gut. Verboten.

    Even if it isn't.

I agree some people post a lot of tripe and sludge worthy of Balph Eubanks, but the exposition of this tripe is the best weapon against it... not making the overarching decision to hide it for our own good.

    Just my 2 cent opinion.

Yes, that is what the media does now, hide the news that we do not need to see, for our own good.
It was easier when the 3 networks and the newspaper were deciding what news we need. North Korea is still trying.

I'm still relatively new her in the Gulch but I have found the point system a little confusing, but am starting to get the hang of it. A post or comment may be +’d or –‘d without a comment being made. OK I understand that only plus or minus if I've given a comment. To date I have not given anyone a minus. I have not agreed with some of the posts but it is the right to post what you want.
As far as hiding posts or comments that have a negative score, I don't think that should happen. Any item posted or any comment should be shown negative rating or not. The negatively rated posts and comments are as informative as any other. It shows the leanings of the majority of the readers.
If we're voting (and we're not) I vote let all post be shown.

Yes it's a popularity contest sometimes. If you don't like someone you can vote them out of sight. But you can always add points if you think it added to the conversation.
