Today, at work...

The office manager took the group of us out to lunch. Normally the topics of conversation at such lunches are mindless. Today...because of the SOTU crap last night, the office manager decided to throw her two-cents about government out on the table for discussion. Of course I cringed because both she and her husband (my boss) are Liberal and obviously very pro-BO. Mind you- my boss is a VERY successful attorney and very, very wealthy.

So she says "Did you hear that 'they're' talking about making two years of community college free??" and while I attempted to restrain myself...I replied "and who is paying for that 'free' education? Nothing is ever free." "Oh the top 1% that hold all of the wealth of the country..." I asked her why she thinks that it's ok to take money from one person to give it to someone else. Her exact words are "that's the way it goes...they don't need all of that money anyway."

I left. I got up, got into my car and drove back to work. Had I not done that, I would've lost my job for telling her what a fool she is. I just needed to share this. We've discussed the "free education" in the Gulch before. So no need to beat a dead horse but there are truly people that think it is 100% okay to redistribute wealth to the undeserving. This woman also thinks that the present economy is the best it's ever been in our country....and "wouldn't it be great if BO could always be president."

Just shoot me.

I have a lawyer friend that recognized the opportunity from the mortgage crash, took the necessary training and is making BANK as a bankruptcy trustee, doing her job: legally taking possession of people's assets and selling them, all the while praising our POSPOTUS.
The job needs done and I can't blame her for making the bucks, but she seems to rationalize supporting socialist ideology while saying 'conservatives' are solely responsible for the crash, so she has selectively educated herself while conveniently ignoring the facts.
Says it's a miracle that she's a friend of mine and, to keep it civil amongst friends, I reply "thank God for miracles". But, I don't have to work with her.
I would try to get out of there as attorneys can justify anything. I'm sure we all know good ones that are good people, but nothing an attorney does surprises me.

It's not just about the money. Community colleges were established to offer education based on the needs of local communities. Once those schools are federalized, Obama is going to replace the curriculum with his communist agenda. Why do we want to allow even more marxist indoctrination in our schools?

The notion of community colleges is communist itself. Let's just abolish them (or at least cut their budget all we can) and let the market produce replacement(s) if any are called for. They'll work better for more people, and cost less too.

    Key word..........attorney.............I shall not elaborate.

Don't shoot yourself, she is her own problem, not yours....................I have been there, too (but not attorneys)...did my work, kept my antenna up for better situations, and when one appeared, made the move.............at age 43 the move was to go out on my own..............not easy, but worked out fine...........no regrets.................

Your modern liberal is a sociopath -- possessing a mind imbued by conceit, arrogance, a lack of accountability and ego-maniacal delusionalism. They are also profoundly ignorant. They literally do not know what they do not know -- they have no understanding of the the essentials of logic. These people are lacking a sense of morality and essentially justify gang-rape with the endorsement of property redistribution at the point of a legislatively dictated gun. Their rape is done by proxy -- they do not sully their own hands, rather cast that responsibility on face-less bureaucrats. They work their evil with the general approval of their own conscience. Most cannot be changed as they are calcified in their orthodoxy. When I do encounter one of these creatures, I do my best to retain my composure and debate at an even pace and decibel. I realize that my words, directly, are falling on deaf ears. My only hope is that a bystander in the group can see that logic, reason and basic morality do exist and that there is a working alternative to the envy-intoxicated mind-numbing nonsense proposed by socialists.

desimarie, you are NOT alone. . never feel alone.
these liberals think that the best way to use a
government is to control the lives of others, willy-
nilly, just because it's PC or fair or some crap.

you are NOT alone!!! -- j

I think I would have asked her one more question before leaving... "You make a comfortable living, Have you ever sent extra money to the IRS for those less fortunate????"

i applaud you for your self restraint. I like you would probably lost my job if I had stayed. At what point can you say "they don't need that money anyway". $100 million, $10, $1 or $100 thousand. It is still their money. We have a moral obligation to provide for our own welfare. We also have a moral obligation to provide for family. We have no moral obligation to any others. We should be allowed to freely give to those we choose, but the government has chosen to take that right into it's own hands.

I would have done the same thing. But I would have taken it a step further and started looking for a new job. Once one was secured I would turn in my resignation with a full explanation of why I was resigning. None of what you say anyway would sink into her thick skull anyway.

People like that are just uneducated idiots at best, and evil thieves at worst. Its time to take sides, which I have started to do since seeing Francisco say that in AS 1. I ask people like that where its carved in stone that I should work so someone else gets the benefits. Maybe I should STOP working and wait for handouts too. I do this with the bums on the street and anyone so foolish as to make arguments like that in front of me.

Community college is an exceptional value as it stands. Peppered all around San Francisco are excellent 2-year community colleges under $1,000 per year plus books. They are really good schools. That is the only area I know of personally but I imagine there are many more.

Yes, Californica has had nearly "free" college education for years (at least since the 70's).

Probably one of the reason that state is doing so well, budget-wise...oh, wait a minute...

I can't help but wonder if she earned her job or is the office manager because her husband is the boss. Kind of a Hillary and Bill situation-

I don't know how formalized disciplinary or firing procedures are at your company, but I would pay careful attention to her activities as they relate to you or your work products. This sounds like you will be a target and need to prepare to defend yourself.

If they want to discipline me for this, I would walk out and never look back. If she has the right to offend me with her psychobabble, why do I not have a right to walk away from it? I refuse to justify my actions to anyone. I do know that she dislikes me, and I'm ok with that. If I had the 'approval' of someone like her I would begin to question my actions.

Agree with your sentiments. I just wanted to highlight that vigilance is called for and lefties have a well earned reputation for being personally vicious.

I do not talk about this stuff with clients, employees, etc. They can probably figure out my wife and are both pro-BO.

I think you could have asked questions along what Timelord did. If they really hard hard-core ideologues, it would be good to work somewhere else.
