Dagny Taggart or John Galt?

I'm semi-retired now and I was out of work due to the plandemic for almost two years. When I got laid off I was so ecstatic. I was going to rake in all that unemployment money, stimulus and plandemic unemployment assistance. I bought an airplane the day after I was laid off (I had saved and planned for far too long to let this pothole stop my dream.) Now I had plenty of pocket cash and free time and and my dream airplane to help me burn them both.

After a year and a half I was so depressed. When Joe announced the extension of unemployment, I actually exclaimed, "Nooooo!" I wanted it to run out and start looking for a job. But I was seduced by the easy money to sit home. Nothing was fun anymore. I do believe Joe paid people to stay home to injure our country. I complied. I feel bad about it.

I just got a job in a deli and I love it. I feel a sense of purpose. I have to keep the case full and serve the customers. I am helping to feed people. I was feeling like Dagny last week, who wanted to keep her railroad going and be responsible to society. (While making a deserved profit.)

We are short staffed a lot and I see how hard it is for me and coworkers to keep up. I feel like I want to fight and do something and not give up. I don't want John Galt to whisper in my ear. Well, if he really had a decent cloaking device, I might jump in my Champ and fly away. But for now, I'll fight against the sloth. I see everything falling apart and I just want to help somehow. There are a lot of heroes in Atlas Shrugged. Dagny is my hero for the moment. But do anything. I'll lick golf balls clean for money to put gas in my plane. I was bitten by the aviation bug when I was 8 years old.

My cousin had her own plane and both her daughters soloed in their teens. I seem to think she was living in California at that time.

She was a gorgeous babe and a New York model. She did a layout for the Houston Chronicle while I was in high school and another cousin said "Look at that cow! She's got to be 40 and she's in a bikini!' I laughed and said, "Don't you wish you looked like that in a bikini?

    Now I understand the name...

Yes you are Dagny. I’m not saying this to be mean at all. There’s nothing to be mean about. I’m just pointing out reality. You are playing a small part in propping up a system that seeks to enslave you. Most people are. I am. I’m waiting until my youngest turns 26 and can no longer be covered under my medical insurance. Or she gets her own. Then I’m out. For me “out” represents working part time. At a job I can walk away from with a minutes notice. And replace that quickly too. It’s time to deprive the beast of my generated tax revenue. As JBrenner perfectly put it, “A SHRUG job.” I’m highly skilled in industrial automation. A field that is growing. But after 25 years of this stuff I’m not interested in using my time and talents to prop up a corrupt system. To what end?
But, I already have everything I need. Money is not a huge motivation for me anymore. Because I see it for what it is. FAKE. The actual purpose of money is to buy you time. Well the time is already yours. So take advantage of it.
