Thank You to the Gulch

I'm quite frankly astounded and happy with all the support that has come to me from members in the Gulch.

jbrenner is helping me explore FIT as an option for college (I am a high school junior currently).
An anonymous benefactor has paid a year-long subscription for me to be a producer.
Many, MANY more examples come to mind, yet I do not want to embarrass anyone by calling them out.

I never expected this bond of a community from people across the continent, in many different ages, in all different occupations and stages of life. But I should have; we all have an underlying ideology, even if we have differences. I have received overwhelming support from everyone here; even if I am too busy to respond to some interesting posts, it makes me smile to see the words "Daily Digest" in my inbox and know that people like me do exist and thrive.

So, thank you, to everyone, merely for existing as you are. I appreciate it.

You're quite welcome autumn! I had a moment of "How did you know that?" but I'm sure I've mentioned it on this forum. Probably.

    Sarah,
I would like to congratulate your parents or caregivers for creating a loving , caring , stimulating positive environment that apparently has suited you favorably. Support and encouragement when voluntarily offered can create positivite momentum. You too will enrich the lives of many in the future , with the discoveries you selfishly uncover by satisfying your minds curiosity.
    Warm regards,
    Dobrien

That's very true; I've already experienced the "it's just how she is" phenomenon when other students explain why I'm top of the class. They ignore the fact that I do bust my butt to get where I am now. I intend to revolutionize molecular biology by continuing the butt-busting, but I wish the struggle would be easier.

"I can be a little curmudgeon-y, but perhaps with your encouragement I will be a heroine!"
In my limited exposure in working with highly productive people, heroes as it were, it is not very glamorous. They bust their butts, take criticism for being too intense and for pushing the boundaries, they fail, they look foolish, they repeat that cycle over and over. Eventually they get lucky in this process, and people say it was "just luck", right place at the right time, overlooking all the hard work that came before. They have to avoid and ignore those people because the more you do stuff and move things around in the world, the more people who admire or condemn you.

I only know this from watching, since I have not achieved heroic success yet. If my observations are correct, though, you have a bumpy road ahead, but it's much much better than settling for mediocrity.

[Probably in reference to males most typically, but I didn't think it was exclusive.]

You always manage to make me sniffle. Thank you, and you make my life better too!

[I guess that curmudgeon isn't exclusively a male-
    reference word after all.......]

Sarah, you are exceptional in your insight into life,
your intelligent probing persistent character, and
your desire to excel. . it is great knowing you! . you
make life more fun!! -- john

if she might end up a curmudgeon, it's gonna take
at least 60 years and a whole lotta hard knocks! . I'd
rather encourage her to be the heroine in this life!! -- j

Kidding aside, FIT was an absolutely great engineering school in my day '87. Absolutely fantastic. It has grown and grown since then. Brenner is a nano-stud too! (humor intended) My brother has his PhD from there as well, and now his is the chief ME for KSC. Great school!

For the first, I can't look into the future and I therefore have no clue. ;) Secondly, thank you for the compliment. I've been helped along in my development immensely.

If there is a college out there that exists like that, tell me, because I'm sick of altruistic ethics in my school. Student Government at my school, although I would have joined otherwise, is full of the socialists and communists... It would be refreshing to find a place to survive.
