I need to move to Seattle!
I learned recently to not be surprised when the government rolls out another big program. I've learned not to be angry or confused or sad, but to laugh. Because expecting something to act against its nature, and then being genuinely surprised when it does what it has always done, is the behavior of an insane person. That being said, this has to be the funniest thing I've heard in a week.
So you might recall that Seattle elected an actual socialist to the city council. Like legitimate stands behind the red flag socialist. Well I like to keep tabs on what's happening on the other side of the philosophical world to see what they're up to and, lo' and behold, she is deciding to get free Wifi installed in all of the homeless campus of Seattle! This is so insane it blows my mind.
The details are the best part. Breezing through the quick joke of Internet access bring a human right, going through the few articles reveals that the local news crew decided to ask the homeless if they thought it was a good idea. You can ask anyone who doesn't understand economics, which is most everyone, if they want free stuff and I assure you they'll answer in the affirmative. Let alone people who are in a position of economic ruin what they need to get out of it. Ask someone who knows how to get OUT of poverty what the homeless need.
Another juicy part is that they won't tell anyone how much this proposal would cost, although the city has dedicated $100,000 to improving the tent cities. This is good on multiple counts. First, they're spending money on improving poverty. Think about that for a second. They want to make poverty MORE appealing. No reduction in taxes or reduction of regulations to remove poverty, just make the people there more comfortable. The second part is that they won't tell anyone the cost. That's really great because honest workers have no idea how much their spending on buying Internet access for other people. Then you have the fact that out of a $100,000 dollar budget, THIS is what comes to the table. They have other Council members concerned about restrooms, OR maybe food and shelter but nope not the socialists.
Anyway here are some links.

So glad we don't live in the Seattle area anymore.
So much saner.
We have a friend who served as an alderman (or as I refer to him: Aldermaniac) who informs us that the average city counsel meeting consisted of 20% actual city issues and 80% is just folks wanting the city counsel to fix their personal problems.
The only place that I could survive that kind of tripe is in as place where folks are
logical and have objective values about life and how it works.
Then again, maybe teaching starts at the political level.
A price we give for having states with their own freedom.
What's the alternative?
Force them all to one standard?
It's that wealth is portable that makes us free.
We can sell land and move.
Best we can do.
The oppression of having a government (state or otherwise) that forces YOUR or MY way on people is not the the government our Founders had in mind.
But if that division of power, limiting Federal government but giving States everything not delineated specifically for the Federal government isn't what people want...well, there are other countries.
We may not like the choice Seattle and Oregon as a whole make, but I'd rather that than the oppressive forcing of a Federal government dictating to the States.
Good reason to actually run for office or be involved in whatever state you live in - save you a move.
It allows different states to try different things and all of us can see the results.
Be happy there is a California. We learn a lot about what NOT to do.
We should encourage such experiments at state level and utterly oppose them at Federal level.
Let them crash and keep the Federal government out of it.
They're always going to try such things.
If they do it with the country, THEN we're in trouble. (They're trying...).
As my husband and I say: "At least they could clean my house in exchange for these freebies!"
Hmmm, I never really considered that? Maybe you are on to something...
p.s. no, thanks.
Hmmm. I just realized that 'where the military goes to retire' may be an important demographic in the rationality and liberty of a state. I need to look this up.

The road was safe for at least ten mph more than that, but all the drivers were either sheeple or terrified of local law enforcement. I don't remember seeing any patrol cars, though. I guessed is was herd mentality... Baaaaaaaaaaa!
Even FL rejected a high-speed rail boondoggle that CA is still pursuing.
Looking for sanity? Occasionally, states with non-Liberal governors and legislatures do a few sensible things, but it's not as if they're without downsides either... I'm in NC and liberals are apoplectic over some of our (Rep.) Governor's beliefs and actions. We should look surprised?
I miss rozar in here more often. *sigh*
Most corners here seem to be reserved, the same person or couple there all the time. On occasion, probably when they dry up, they actually move. Couples is becoming the new way, and some even have a nice little dog with them.
I carry cards, "Veteran Crisis Line" that I give to those claiming to be vets, and I usually tell them that the next time I come by here I don't want to see you here again. Sometimes they seem to take a short vacation or find another spot for a while, but usually come back to their home spot.
We've learned from animals about dependency, but we can't seem to understand that we too are not much more than animals ourselves. In fact we seem to be going more and more in that direction. Why work when someone is willing to just give it to you?
