What is "wrong", other than MOST of the things we all do every day. I am tired of being spied on and then attacked for doing something they have determined as "wrong" so as to make money off me. I will buy one as soon as its ready in the US.
That IS a LOL. I've had American-made still-working "fuzz buster" for so long I forget the exact price, but I bought it for around $100. For a price around $200, this retired dino on a fixed income may begin to think about that new product.
Use the waze app. See them before they see you. I always try to find a way to photo the trap but if I'm the first one on it, I'm always happy to report "cop here"
Boo-hoo, the police are pissed off? Too bad. It's about time there was a level playing field. There's a town here in Florida that makes mucho dinero off of a speed trap where the speed limit goes from 55 to a sudden 25, with 24 hour lurkers on duty. There's a very old saying -- turnabout is fair play.
lol. No, it grew out of a feeling of being expectorated. That was years ago when 8 digits was the limit for user names. It remains as a challenge to weed out those who judge too quickly.
That is dissappointing to hear. I would have bought one if it worked. I live in South Jersey (Pennsville) and when I was driving to Graduate School in Philadelphia from 2010 to 2013 at night, I used route 295 often and relied on my old Radar Detector to avoid the Speed Traps...
This is very similar to what Uniden had years ago. Here is the U.S. these systems do not work, because the police do not have "one" freq shared and used by all, like in Europe, that can be picked up. I tried out one of these systems on a trip from NY to PA and had many false alarms, and it missed a lot of police cars. In NJ, the freq was so strong from thier cars that it went off even when they were miles away. A waste of money for people in the U.S.
We have to have those radiowaves going through our bodies (they're completely harmless), so we should be able to detect them.
I question how well it would work. If you open it up to many types of frequencies and trunking systems, you'll get false positives. If you narrow it down to systems used by majors cities, you'll get false negatives. Also, it should only work when they key the transmitter, unless trunking systems have changed radically since I used to play with them back when electronics was an avocation.
That's what this system relies on - the wireless IT connection that turns most emergency response vehicles into a mobile office.
Of course some responders - most around here other than LEO's - have "dumb" vehicles, i.e. radios that only transmit when the radio is keyed up. Others use their cellphones for business comms - for all the flaws in that (and there are many) it's becoming a first line comm device for some LEO units.
It's a neat gadget, especially in Europe where everything is dispatched via computer link, but here, especially rural here, I'm not sure it's money well spent. Unless you're hiding from the law...
Now, if that can be tweaked to mil freqs, it might have some utility right before they start rounding up the former patriots now known as evildoers... --giggles--
"So, if your not doing anything wrong, why worry?" You have your roles reversed. The people who need to be monitored are government officials. THEY WORK FOR US and you don't have a right to know what your neighbor is doing all the time. But I have EVERY right to know what my police are doing
If you don't understand the work of law enforcement you shouldn't comment, but I have faith, if some nut job goes off in your town, you will be the first person to complain because the cops didn't prevent it. Cops are government employees, not Officials, and it is an important distinction that you all are missing.
Hello sfdi1947. I find your comment a bit condescending. One does not need to be in law enforcement to understand their work or how they perform it. A citizen has a right to an opinion regarding how every public servant operates and making their job easier is not criteria sufficient to deny citizens a means to oversee and observe that function, nor to be warned of their presence. This technology could be abused, like any other, but it also has advantage as the article points out of having most users check their behavior and thus improve safety for all. The police can't prevent crime. They can only come in and clean up afterwards. The only way one might argue that they can prevent crime is by making their presence known (high visibility), by driving the roads and walking the beat, not by sitting behind a road sign waiting to pounce like a thief in a dark alley. How did we ever get by before LEOs had the use of electronic technology... when we were all on even footing? I do not blame the Cops generally who are only doing their jobs as directed. I blame the officials that set the policy and force police to be revenuers instead of peace officers.
Truckers have been using their radios for years to warn others of police presence. How is this different?
And, as far as if you are "not doing anything wrong" you have nothing to worry about... this flies in the face of all of the wrongly accused, incarcerated and those whose property has been confiscated through forfeiture laws without due process... mistaken identity and many other factors come into play. Police are imperfect humans also. They are not all angels. "If men were angels, no government would be necessary." - James Madison Respectfully, O.A.
Very much so, know some very good LEO's from a Jurisdiction that requires pain in the ass policies, They hate it but do it to stay employed. They'd much rather be doing real police work. Town I live in generally requires a distinct resemblance to the fourth point of contact before they'll blow up their squad car and stop you.
yes, police work for my city, my state, my federal government. Citizens have a right to expect that their government will work within the Constitution. History has shown that government is the most dangerous when it's given too much power, not criminals
I don't think you have any right to determine who does and who does not have enough time to determine anything about anyone else's opinion. The last time I checked this was a public site, so if you're dissatisfied with my comment, well, you know what you can do with it, cause nobody really cares what you think.
snort...I "don't have a right to determine...." You sound like a young lefty... "do not question, do not judge, do not notice". You almost hurt my feewing with that "nobody cares what I think" bit. Sit down!
If you don't understand the Constitution perhaps you shouldn't comment. As a matter of fact, I AM the first one to complain if some cop nut job goes off and people like you do nothing to prevent it. what you ignore is that more and more, the government IS the criminal. It's the whole point of the Constitution-4th Amendment? http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/posts/17... minus 1 for ignorance and telling me not to comment on your ignorance
Ah! Anarchy is such a wonderful illness, and before you call me a gnome again, perhaps you might read the document you've referenced, it has little or nothing to do with state, county, or municipal government, where the legal police forces come from, and is a matter of 50 other separate constitutions; that kind sir is stated in the 10th Amendment, and is an abrogation of Federal Power. In so far as that Unconstitutional Alphabet Soup Centered in Washington, none of it is Constitutionally Legal, and if ever we get a Congress and a President with cohunes, they'll roll things back to John Quincy Adam's time and we'll be on the right track again. Too much has been done in the name of personal profit and "Pocatello Fever," we and all of our ancestry are all responsible for the travesty that we call Washington, and if we are not careful, we will all pay for it.
Where do you get anarchy from? And it's not gnome, it's troll. It's not 'abrogation', it's a rejection of. The only 'legal' police force is the county sheriff.
As to DC, can't argue with much of that, but no Congress and President will ever be able to 'roll things back'.
There's no advocacy of anarchy. Rather proper constraint of law enforcement. Yes, the constitution and its amendments apply to the federal government. But the courts have increasingly forced all laws to be uniform across all states, thus the expectation that these be uniform as well.
Never mentioned any approval of judges who legislate from the bench, John Marshall warned of that, essentially inviting congress to amend Art. 3 to add a removal process, and as usual, they dropped the ball.
And how's that faith worked for us so far? Aren't our fellow men the ones that spend so much effort trying to enslave us and murdered some 200 million during the lat century.
Sorry you feel that way Z, for in every bushel there is some chaff and some faulted seed. I knew an atheist during Op. Iraqi Freedom, and one during particularly fun ride near Najaif, he asked my gunner, who wore a cross openly, to help him pray. Yea, religion may be "the opiate of the masses," but damned if it ain't a good drug.
Sounds as if you could stand a little refreshing of the actual work 'of law enforcement'. For myself, I don't want cops out there trying to 'prevent' crime. I want them doing their jobs of picking up the true criminals, like the bankers and politicians that crashed the economy.
Or perhaps the Progressive Politicians (Carter, Clinton, and that slob who replaced Newt) who authorized the merger of investment and commercial banking. All of whom were paid off. That was what happened in 29, then Glass Steagall mad it illegal in 33. Carter bent that in 77 when he made it legal for banks to make unsecured housing mortgages, then Clinton wiped Glass Steagall and 07-08-09 happened.
KH maybe correct in his state, but he's not in mine. Our state constitution authorizes counties and municipalities to form their own police forces, as I said, NOT the US Constitution, but the State Constitution. All you people need to learn the difference before they come for you, because they will pry the fire arm out of your cold dead hand. Me, well, they'll never find me, we ran all the way from Phu Lonugn to Pleiku after Rivers shot the #3 Guy in the NVA, and yes, the crats sanctioned it! The US Constitution does not directly authorize any federal police force. Grant and Roosevelt did that themselves, illegally, and unconstitutionally, daring the congress to defund them, the US Secret Service and the FBI respectively, were illegal long before patriot act made them criminals.
Tell that to the people in Wisconsin that had their doors broke in, computers and other stuff confiscated in predawn raids at gunpoint because they made political contributions to political parties that the left wing did not like. Below is a link to an interview one of the people gave about the ordeal if you care to listen to what happens when law enforcement gets out of hand.
If they want to pull you over, they will find SOME thing to pull you over for...... do you seriously believe there is no elements of power mongering going on within the police force? Just because too many Americans don't know their own Constitutional rights doesn't mean the cops should abuse their 'power' via intimidation tactics just because they get away with doing it. Should a person walking down the street with an AR 15 slung over his back be harassed by police?
It happened to my nephew. For two days, cops followed him all over, from his neighborhood, to work, while he was out at dinner with his younger brother. He was followed one evening for 25 minutes, pulled over, and had something planted on him. Corruption is rampant. Someone had a grudge and knew who to call... Insanity!
Remember the couple pulled over in some east coast state merely because the husband had a concealed carry permit. The cops ran the plates and saw that and pulled them over. Even though he had left his weapons at home, they rattled his wife into saying she didn't know where the weapons were, and since he said there were no weapons in the car and the wife said she didn't know where the weapons were, they arrested them and hauled them to jail. No probable cause, no reason to suspect them of any crime, merely police out of control.
Not at all. Find my post about the restaurant owner who had $30k confiscated merely because she ran a cash only business and made her deposits to the bank in cash.
"as you say, you're not doing anything wrong, they will leave you alone" If this statement were true and some humans were paragons of virtue, we could give them unlimited powers to investigate and punish crimes. Unfortunately, humans are flawed. We create institutions with checks and balances that try to overcome those flaws.
"if your not doing anything wrong, why worry?" Can we get a camera over your toilet, shower, and bed? If you're not doing anything wrong in there, you should mind our watching.

I am intrigued by your name, "Phlembol". Is it a contraction of "phlebotomy" and "embolism"?

I still have trouble forcing myself to use spaces in Ids and such online
btw - woops would be West Point. Also called woo-poo-u, or woops to us grads.

Besides, it's probably illegal in VA, and CA, OR, WA.
You have your roles reversed. The people who need to be monitored are government officials. THEY WORK FOR US

Their primary work is coming in after a crime has already happened and cleaning up the mess in whatever manner is needed.
I find your comment a bit condescending. One does not need to be in law enforcement to understand their work or how they perform it.
