Road Work Ahead: What’s Next in the Gulch?
Since the release of “Atlas Shrugged: Who is John Galt?”, many of you have asked “what’s happening with Galt’s Gulch? Is Galt’s Gulch going away?”
With over 18,000 registered members, Galt’s Gulch Online is now the world’s largest and most active online Objectivist community. And, we're not going anywhere.
We are however going to be undergoing some renovations here in the Gulch and we want your feedback.
1.) What do you like most about Galt’s Gulch?
2.) What do you like least about Galt’s Gulch?
3.) What new features would you like to see?
It's not the end... it's the beginning.

I also like the degree of "big tentedness" I see here. We're a diverse movement, and can't afford to drive people away needlessly. (Though I would want enough moderation so that "agents provocateur" don't show up and lead people into trying stupid things.)
I don't like having to reach 100 points before I can upvote others' posts. It sometimes leads me to post a new message instead, which many will see as a waste of bandwidth.
Some are, some aren't. You can disagree with someone without automatically hitting the "troll" button on them. Maybe more should do that.
Seems to me that the group just can't tolerate another point of view.
I am sure you have your reasons but it is frustrating that I cannot "Thumbs-up (or down)" someone's posting or comment. Maybe ease a little on the requirements?
I think it would be cool to be able to start groups. Like a local group, for instance. I would like to join a local group for lunch or coffee or go to Objectivist-themed events.
Like least: occasional vulgarity, ad hominem comments and initial discussions sometimes veering off on a nearly insignificant tangent.
Others have suggested a few interesting possibilities. I would not complain if it remained exactly unchanged. I subscribe also to: if it is not broken, don't fix it. Finally, I would also be willing to help insure that the Gulch is financially sound.
People that disagree with you are not bullies. If many people show you disagreement, perhaps it is time for you to rethink it and see if you learned something. The fact that a point of you is different, might, but does not necessarily add to its value. The point system is just a signal to quickly indicate disagreement. It does not force you to do anything.
I'd propose some slight alterations in the categories for new posts.
I'd put Entertainment in with News or Culture - I rarely see anyone post anything to this one at all.
I'd combine Government and Legislation.
I'd also like to see a section for trending conversations on the right to replace the Top Points Earners (always the same people - BORING) and the "Members and Lurkers" (move somewhere else) sections.
In general, I prefer the Gulch to any of the other online forums I participate in - primarily because the people are generally more polite and thoughtful. I think that counts as much as the design.
I got kicked off a political debate board that used to appear in my email for telling an atheist "God will get you for that" and making up the word, "Demonrat" for Democrat, all in the same post. I may have ended that with "I am dino, hear me roar," but I'm not sure.
I like to say that when I feel being uppity.
What do I like least: Censorship by a few who gang up to dispense negative points to shut down different points of view.
Features: Get rid of the scoring system. It simply allows a few bullies to crush different views.
How's bout a Facebook presence reflecting this forum?
