The issue of restitution on the basis of descendence from a former slave held in the US wherever slavery was at one time legal introduces Nazi-like reliance on eugenics. Also, if each of 40,000,000 "black" people in the US receive $500,000, the sum added to the national debt would be $20T. The current figure for the national debt is roughly $31T--and it has taken all unfunded federal government expenditures since and including WWII to get to that $31T.

I can't help but wonder how that would make holders of US sovereign debt (Treasury bonds) feel.

How does one decide how much restitution is equitable or fair? How is it to be awarded--e.g. if a person is thoroughly descended from slaves vs only partially descended from slaves?

Maybe the restitution will be just enough to buy votes but not enough to destroy confidence in US sovereign debt. But how can one guess what that number will be without going ahead and launching the program on a by-the-seat-of-your-pants guess?

A great many of the slaves had a better life here than while in Africa being killed off by jealous rival tribes. How do you get restitution for slaves owned by black women? Gonna dig them up? A lot of us know some real stories.

I don't think the entire continent of Africa could scrape up $20T for the slave trade they are ultimately responsible for. And when you consider they sold slaves to a lot of other places than just the British colonies the figure is far past $20T.

Another consideration is how do you subtract out the benefits the slave descendants have received for living in the USA instead of Africa?
