I'm a C-5 Incomplete Quadriplegic due to being dropped in a hospital, in Abilene Texas, after a surgery on my back that I didn't need 20 years ago! I just put it all in God's hands and asked him for the strength to get through it! After staying in a 9 month Morphine induced coma that should have left me a slobbering vegetable I emerged with what little bit of a mind I had before the whole thing happened! I've never asked why me, I've just kept thanking God for letting me make it through that chapter of my life, and everything else that I've been through since! I was dropped in December 1995 and the paralysis set in within a couple hours of it happening. Funny thing is, I'd been up walking around for a few days since the surgery! They'd just figured out what the lab guy's report from my hometown hospital told them when I first went there, that I'd contracted a blood disorder caused by a viral infection! I was still being given Morphine and they wanted to move me to the floor where the oncology/hematology Doc was, but even though I'd been walking around under the influence of it for several days, they all of a sudden decided that if I tried to stand up to get in a wheelchair to be wheeled to the other floor I might lose my balance and fall and hurt myself! Huh??? Anyway I told them I'd let them move me with a gurney! BIIIIG MISTAKE! I was taking a nap while I was waiting for them. Now here's the real kicker, I was woke up by two little Mexican nurses turning me from side to side, and putting a flat sheet under me. I'm not racist, for all of you a**holes who are ready and waiting to run your faceless mouths at me from behind your keyboards, shut the h*ll up!!! I only said Mexican because they were speaking Tex-Mex and pure Spanish, so from that I surmised that they were Mexicans! Sorry for not being a "Politically Correct" p**sy like most of you sheep who're letting the Government, and the Government controlled Media, lead you right to the slaughter! With that said, on to the rest of the story! They had two oderlies, who were 6’8 and 6’5, who did nothing but sit in an office doing whatever they wanted until they were needed to lift heavier people. I only went 170 at the time, but with the Morphine, I was like a limp noodle. They're the ones we were waiting on to get me moved to the gurney. The next thing I know, I feel myself being sat up on the bed, and these two little nurses who probably couldn't lift 50 pounds between them were trying to carry me holding only the corners of the sheet to the gurney bout 20’ across the room! They were too impatient to wait for the two orderlies, or even take the time, to move the gurney next to the bed and lock the wheels! I was hollering at them in English and Spanish to leave me on the bed, then in mid air, to put me on the floor! When I tried to stand up, they tried to jerk the sheet back under me, causing me to lose my footing and when my feet came out from under me I hit my head on the floor! As all of this happened, I was knocked out for less than 10 seconds, and as I woke up the two orderlies walked in the door! When I hit my head I had a bleedout in my C-Spine! The orderlies picked me up off of the floor, put me on the gurney, and got me where I was supposed to be! Between the day I was dropped, through the next 9 months, a breathing machine did all my breathing for me through a tracheotomy in my neck and I was clinically dead for over 10 minutes at a time 19 different times! Today, I'm living a great life, even though it's still out of a wheelchair! If something goes wrong, I still put it in God's hands, and he keeps pulling me through! I'm still the same as I was before, a lifelong Cowboy, and like most Cowboys my body's got a lot more miles on it than it should have for it's age! Now I just go at everything full steam ahead, and I don't mind telling you what I think, and if you don't like it just leave me alone! If you want to know something about me, don't beat around the bush, ask me! If I don't mind you knowing I'll tell you! If I do mind telling you I'll tell you that too!
