I know we've talked here about what our Akston's Diner jobs would be. I still say mine is a bus driving job for disabled kids. I'll drive the short bus eventually. But, what's kept me sane until then is golf. The night before last I was by myself on the course. I came to my chip shot on the highest point of the course. The clouds were dark and low. The sun was setting. And, all I could hear was the birds. I took a photo and will try to share it here. My fishing trips always reset me, but there are only a couple of those per year, anymore.

What helps you cope with all the stuff going on around us?...

My "Akston's Diner job" is working as a high school Math teacher. Work inside the system and try to advance the cause of reason.

    Denial helps a lot.

    Knowing myself.

Improving my body, my mind and steeling my resolve. Fasting has taught me a lot about what I can and cannot do.

I am only in control of my responses... Never what happens. I know I will do my best under any situation, and that, for now, I am exactly where I should be to learn what I need to learn!

I just got back from mine! Spent the day on my NY Catskills mountain reservoir with my best GF a Brittany Spaniel who has been my side kick for 12 years and loves to just go. Bald Eagles flying all over and the hopes of a fresh trout or walleye dinner make it all worth it. Spaghetti tonight for us but had a wonderful day catching nothing but relaxation and serenity.

For me its Title boxing. Heavy bag stuff. One hour of training and I am a happy person. Amazing who and what I visualize when I beat the crap out of the bag.

Can relate. I trained at a boxing gym for a decade, until just recently. One hour on the heavy bag and the next day I'm the nicest guy you ever met....amazing.

Mine is the Davy Crockett forest in East Texas. No electricity, lights, etc. Primitive camping only. Set my RV right in the middle of a bunch of trees, build a fire and relax. Of course be sure you carry your sidearm when you go hiking. The bears are loose and you might need to scare one off.

Drive my Jeep on back roads where few go or haven't been for years. I go alone, enjoy the solitude, the challenge of boulder-strewn roads that challenge passage, views of canyons, mountains, wildlife, and flora sometimes returning late at night because I was stuck but managed to work my way out.

I look at my children and my grandchildren. they are turning into fime examples of what people should be. they make me proud and give me hope that their generation just might reverse the trend(s) pushing them into hedonism and self centeredness in the extreme.
As a sample see my post "Youngest Gultch Member?" just a picture of my youngest grandchild but you'll get the drift.

I classify myself as retired I have many projects around the house to keep me busy. My wife who is an RN is still working to ameliorate our financial situation, I also have to take care of a partially disabled pet dog. What I would like to do is get out to the range and practice shooting my various handguns, I find it therapeutic. I have started typing an outline for a fantasy novel base on the artwork of Vsevolod Ivanov, https://weirdrussia.com/2014/06/08/fa...

My Akston's Diner job would be "policing" the trails at State and National parks. I'd be outside, I'd get some good exercise, and it'd be about as low-pressure a job as I could get, which would be a polar opposite of my current IT job.

I think the world is amazingly prosperous. Problems that in my life time were thought intractable are being solved.
The world is run by those who show up. I'm going to keep showing up.
