I just came back in here, after about 1.5 years. I saw this bumper sticker today that said;

Atlas Shrugged is no Longer Fiction.

Sad to say, but its all coming true as Obama and his minions take over everything. I hope some good smart people are hiding somewhere to help fix everything when the US falls.

I hope everyone has a lot of emergency supplies at the very least. Anything could happen now. There could be an Ebola outbreak, for instance, and how would we know if it was real or not? But Obama could call marital law and put us all in FEMA quarantine camps.

In Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand foresaw the inevitability of what is happening today. The reason it took years to write was putting it in a form that was readable, and inspiring, while hitting all the points she wanted to make. That took genius. It was as if we were reading about the folly of a parallel universe in which a few things were different but the moral lesson was clear as glass. It said, "This could be you." From the perspective of 2014, paraphrasing Pogo, "She has seen the future and they is us."

It is funny you should say that, because it seems as if our Earth, got shifted into a parallel universe, where Obama and the communists rule, and
1984 Animal Farm, is a reality.

And the only ones who benefit are the pigs.

Yes, every time Obama parties with his Hollywood elites, raising funds and eating gourmet $5,000.00 dollar a plate dinners, while we all just watch in horror; I think of that scene from Animal Farm, where all the pigs were partying in the kitchen, laughing, drinking, eating the best, while all the animals were looking into the window, gasping at their shock.

While it is certainly true today, I have a feeling that this stuff was happening when Ayn wrote AS. She had the foresight to see it and articulate it in a way that was interesting. Still wish I would have learned of it sooner in life.

Yeah, and the main stream media actually put the interview on the air.

If not for my dad, I never would have learned it, either. I used to think he was nuts; shame on me.

Yes shame on you, LOL. I have said before that AS should be required reading in high school but truth be told, until a person is receptive to the truth it would not make a difference to read AS. Same reaction as you until you're receptive.

Ms. Rand was hired to write the book; it is not some miraculous ordaining of intelligence that resulted in the tome.

Y'know, I'm curious, I've never heard any conspiracy theories regarding our great She.

Who was it that was supposed to have hired her, FlatNap?

Are you saying she was a ghost writer?

No, she was not a ghost writer, or her name would not be on the book as author. Maybe someone gave her an advance before the book was written, because she presented her idea, and they liked it.

My bad, I got it now, your saying she just did it for the money.
That both she and her magnum opus are overrated.

Yeah, well, everyone has the right to their own mind.

Just a little disappointed is all. I was hoping for a little more COLOR if not substance.

No she didn't do it for the money. She did it because; if someone will pay you, for your work, then you have more reason to do it.
It is like slavery; the slaves were lazy and did what they were forced to do but nothing more, and the masters were lazy because they just bossed the slaves.
It is good to get paid for work, and ideas, and inventions; then you will not be lazy, and have incentive to work.

I think we're talking past each other Crystal. I was only responding to Flapnap's jibe.
(Frankly I'm having a hard time figuring out the exactly what (s)he meant.)

I have no idea how Miss Rand was paid for Atlas Shrugged, but I'm sure the money was quite secondary.

Hers was one of the greatest minds in history. She was the fountainhead of a powerful new philosophy, destined to change the world and this book was to be her masterwork. Her chance to lay it all out in images everyman could understand.

Every moment of her life had led up to the writing of that book.
The money was icing on the cake, not a motive force.

Probably. I zoomed by the car and the bumper sticker caught my eye, and I didn't expect it to say Atlas Shrugged, so it happened fast. I was debating in my mind if it said "is now non-fiction" or "is no longer fiction". Anyway, it made me think of you all. :)

While she was alive, someone once remarked to Rand that everything she depicted the government doing in AS had already happened. She replied, "I know it." I forget exactly when this was, but my guess would be early 70's at the latest.

It all started in the 60's with Alinsky and his communist regime. And all the hippies, taking LSD and listening to him. And Bill Ayers, Obama's mentor, starting the Weather Underground.
