I love Jefferson. I would be a Jeffersonian in the anti-federalist camp if I were alive in his time.
The title anti –federalist has a very interesting back story. It is truly a misnomer, because the principle of Federalism is actually something they and I support, but then like now the factions, in this case the Hamiltonians, co-opted the title in an effort to obscure their nationalist policies. This lead the Anti’s to adopt the anti-federalist name as a distinction of opposition to the Hamiltonian federalists. Later Madison joined the anti’s and Jefferson in support of the Bill of Rights. For over two centuries this victory of the anti’s gave us some protection that is largely now trampled like the ninth and tenth amendments.
Regards,
O.A.
