Paying closer attention, I noticed that so-called news stories now had editorial slants. Any action that the left didn't like was given a sinister motive, regardless of whether or not any evidence existed. I felt like I had been asleep for years not to realize I couldn't entirely trust anyone in the news community. They had abandoned their job as watchdogs for the people, and become toadies of ideological thugs, to push their agenda.
Talk radio and certain elements of the internet quickly jumped up to take the helm as the new watchdogs for the people. It remains to be seen if the ideological gangsters will try to suppress these independent voices.
Going along with your "first clue" theme, I always had uncomfortable thoughts towards the way the MSM treated President Reagan, but the real epiphany came during the Granada invasion. I was watching Ted Kopple's "ABC Nightline" when he interviewed a reporter from the W Post that was rescued by the marines on the beach and choppered to the command cruiser at sea. He was treated very well, but wasn't given the opportunity to call his story in to the Post because all the ships communications were being used for military support. Kopple's (et al) narrative was Reagan and the military violated the reporter's First Amendment rights by holding him "incommunicado" on the ship. Three times during the next night live interview Kopple tried to get the reporter to declare he was held incommunicado by the Navy, but the reporter didn't buy in and always said the ships communications were all being used in military support. The next day on ABC News the narrative with a picture of the reporter with the word "Incommunicado" boldly printed across the bottom was on display while the info-babe accused the Reagan administration of obstructing the free press. It was a LIE! I saw the live interview the night before and the story they were pushing was a lie! The lie was parroted on the other networks as well.
The MSM sunk to this level a long time ago and they keep stewing in it and feeding on each other.

Yes, we have the First Amendment but we can also sue for libel (written lies) and slander (spoken lies) that altogether called defamation in civil court.

We never really talked about religion. During the Clinton years We had been friends for twenty five yrs. I asked him how so many Jews could support the left. He explained to me that I was anti-Semitic. I learned how the left manipulate with emotional outbursts. I had never had any negative feelings about Jewish folks only sadness about the horrors of WWII he certainly should have known that.

It is no fun losing a friend.
I too have lost friends over asking seemingly basic questions and yet the response is pure hatred for unfathomable reasons or motivations.
I have one lifelong true and trusted friend who happens to be my wife , but it is important to recognize the true character of an individual .The sooner the better I have learned as I have aged.
I became "tight" with my currency of time so to speak. i have been fortunate to land in this gulch and have many more valued friendships from it.
