"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels…upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"
Mario Salvo
I wonder how he would see free speech at Berkley now?

Even Orwell warned, “If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”
UC Berkeley is truly the enemy of liberty.

If a person is kept from speaking out, that person's thoughts may be a pile of crap or an improvement in quantum physics, or a great idea in philosophic progress.Like birth abortion, the aborted fetus could have been the next Steve Jobs, or Pol Pot. Who knows? Lif has always been a crap shoot. While man's brain has usually overcome most setbacks, there comes a point where nature becomes problematic beyond his ability to overcome.Spin the wheel - red or black or a specific number. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.

I don't think that a human machine can be destroyed unless violence could be applied to it. The leftist ideological machine has become so prevalent in our society due to eight years of Obama and the Dimms. Now, the people of this country voted for a President to stop the machine. The machine is fighting for its life and now the entire west coast states and some of the east coast states have become their haven. The people of the middle of the country will have to fight this disease.

Funny, (not funny ha ha), the "New Left" of those days were the progeny of Marxism but Mario was a different type. He preferred to debate the issues.
No one on the left, these days, is willing to debate their faux issues...
I think he'd be an outcast, just like the "Conscious We"...are.

"for me free speech was not a tactic, not something to win for political [advantage].… To me freedom of speech is something that represents the very dignity of what a human being is.… "
      Salvo
The article is meant like most to steer the reader with assumptions like "the hateful right wing blah blah ... and to embrace the leftist message no matter how far it strays from reality.
I just gather the nuggets like Marcos statement above. I won't argue with that . Doesn't mean I agree with anything else he may have championed.

The Nation is a Marxist publication. Salvo was a leader in the Berkeley New Left "Free Speech Movement" taking over university property with violence in the name of "free speech". That is typical of the left.
