What Philosophical School Of Thought Do You Fall Into?

Me dino ran into this on a sidebar while considering something else to post.
Wonder if whoever put this "let's play" together ever heard of Ayn Rand.
From my responses~and I'm not an atheist~this programmed game concluded that I'm into Platonism.
I recall this Plato dude being a student of Socrates, the latter never writing about himself if I'm not mistaken.
Me dino read what Plato wrote about him at Troy State University way, way long time ago during the early 70s. .

unless you know to what port you are sailing...no winds are favorable...

the only way of knowing is to study epistemology, reason, and logic...the rest is psycho-babble...

I too am with Plato but also took it twice answering as opposite as possible the second time and again came up Plato.
I think the quiz designer should take it again and unless he comes up an IDIOT then it has no useful meaning.

Either Plato was a schizophrenic or the test is rigged. I just did the test twice and answered the questions in opposing ways...both times...it said I was a Platonist.
I will say, I didn't like ANY of the possible answers...none of them suited me.

It doesn't always put you in the Platonist box; mine was Skepticism, which is probably as close as anything on their list. (I doubt that Objectivism is in there.)

(Amusing side note: the spell checker puts a red line under Objectivism.)

The first question, "What is the meaning of life?", is one that has long annoyed me. It's a perfect example of what Rand called "context dropping." Life is what makes "meaning" possible.

The choices did not seem to be possible answers to the questions. E.g., what is the meaning of life question has answers such as 'free will' which is not a meaning. But what can one expect in the present society where rationality is not demanded.
I got Platonism as a result. That might be close if a good part of it is discarded.

Given the quality of the option sets and the number of Platonists we seem to have here, this quiz appears to have originated as someone's homework assignment - and they should probably should stay out of Philosophy as well as Computer Science.

Didn't even get past the first question.

It would have been more intellectually honest to ask, "Would you rather kill your wife with poison or by hanging?"

Why's that more honest? Well, it exposes its false set of choices more starkly.

I suspect that most modern philosophers and fans of philosophy consider the actual practice of philosophy to be a game, with no actual purpose in discovering how to live your own life. Those who see a necessity of getting a useful answer tend to go with religion.

I really don’t fit into any of the boxes some of these questions allow me to fit in.

I guess I’m an outside the box person.

Me dino must admit that I picked some of those answers as being more attune with who I am--but not dead on. Guess you could call that compromising.
And just now it struck me dino that I should change the category from Philosophy to Humor.
      Yes, that's far more appropriate.
Love the belated editing options we're allowed on this board.

I am skeptically a skeptic. Was not aware that was a philosophy . I didn't like all the questions or choices for answers.

I looked it up yesterday. There are other links.
The dude in the painting does not look like he embraces a happy philosophy.

I am all for being skeptical, challenging ideas and testing points of view. But too often, it’s easy to slip into Cynicism. I differentiate between the two as follows:
Skepticism means I have doubts, questions, concerns, but the door is open to information that will help me make up my mind.
Cynicism means my door is closed, locked and nailed shut. I’m not questioning, I’m not looking for information, I’m not open to new ideas. My mind is made up. So there's the difference tween the two.

I fell in with Plato as well. I was looking for more Objectivist questions, but figured my Latin studies led me into Socrates and Plato, then a quest for responsible living into Sartre, and then to the best fit Objectivism. Guess they aren't ready for us yet. Being raised Catholic, then tinkering with panintheism, I have issues with religious questions in general.

    Hello, allosaur,
If it is any consolation, I was also classified a Platonist.
I believe that it is a wrong classification given the answers I provided.
I consider myself admirer of Aristoteles and Ayn Rand.
On the other hand, I believe that philosophy is something personal and belongs to the individual, as a unique (unprecedented and non-repeatable) human being. "Schools" represent similarity but not identical philosophies. There are subjects and ideas which none of the philosophers have considered in a satisfactory degree.
    Just my opinion.
    Best wishes.
    Sincerely,
    Maritimus

Yes, philosophy IS something personal and unique.l. Me dino agrees with almost everything Ayn Rand has written and said. Almost.
Allosaurus is Latin for "different lizard" and that's the reason I picked that moniker.
This thread does proves me dino ain't perfect, though.
Who is may toss the first stone.
But please, don't. I bruise easily. And those silly river rocks some other imperfect people place in buckets to repel school gunmen can hurt when thrown hard.

These internet 'quizzes' and polls are used to collected personal information. One of the para-site domains listed as using javascript to monitor and track use of the site is facebook.

The test itself is philosophically meaningless with its lack of definitions and standards and its ambiguous false-alternative questions. A similar test was posted here a while back (the same one hosted at the same or a different site?) and all this was discussed. Do I remember correctly that me-dino was chagrined to learn that he had been suckered by it then?

As I am a young dinosaur, my college reading of Plato’s Republic was shortly after Allosaurus. About half way through, I realized that Plato must be joking. Thus, pulling Platonism from this magician’s hat of questions could easily occur. Yours truly, Skeptic by Nature and Religion.

Rationality can help determine what is real and needs to be responded to. Ethics can help determine how to respond. If any premise is flawed however the outcome will be undesired for a moral person. An immoral person will determine how to use perception of reality to achieve the plunder of others with their willingness and consent.

Good grief I'm a Platonist! I thought I'm a Phenomenologist. The questions are too general, so the quiz can only put the participant in one of few categories. The realm of consciousness doesn't play into the view of the world in this quiz.

I too rolled Platonism, but I believe in large part that was because I wasn't satisfied with the available answers to several of the questions. For those who are interested, here are the questions:

    1) What is the meaning of Life?
    2) What is Divinity?
    3) What is Reality?
    4) What happens after Death?
    5) Are our lives Predetermined?
    6) What is most important to you?
    7) What word do others use to describe you?
    8) What is the best way to describe your moral code?
    9) What word would you use to describe yourself?
    10) Is there a God or multiple Gods?
    11) What question is most controversial to you?

This clearly wasn't any serious work put into this. It's for if you want to see how the quiz-maker views people ;)
