Totalitarianism as such is the evil. That is the real point. Leftist, "rightist", Naziism or Communism, they are both sides of the same coin--and the coin is a lying counterfeit when it claims to be "liberation".

Everyone overlooks the most devastating Holocaust, the Holodomor (terror famine) in Ukraine 1932-33. Stalin starved/killed 100 million Ukrainians in 500 days. Ukraine was not bowing to the Soviet rule and Stalin confiscated all crops, animals and seed. If you were caught with more than 5 grain stalks, you were executed as an enemy of the state. It was the Ukrainian genocide and was not recognized until 2008.

Never confuse a Ukrainian as Russian. Bad blood still remains to this day and people do not understand why the Ukrainian conflict is so volatile.

It's all in the numbers. All of the deaths attributed to Hitler, Mussolini, and the Tojo regime of imperial Japan pale beside the 100 million or more resulting from the pursuit of Communist ideology. The USSR, China, Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, North Korea are all hideous horror stories of brutality and mass murder.

Communism without the living example of the now dead USSR and Mao's China has become an idyllic fantasy to the left, back to its Utopian roots once again. Kim Jong Un's DPRK is regarded as a Fascist state and an eccentric production of a psychopathic family, rather than a predictable end product of Communist extremism. It's natural then for the left to be dismissive of the President's effort to remind people of the impending disaster of once again following the illusory wonders of a glorious socialist state.

The old pie in the face bit. Nice , but I would go with a cow pie. I thought of a minced meat pie first and looked up the ingrediants only to find Che isn't worth it.
Because I used to snub that minced meat for pumpkin pie.

"Fascist" is a scary word, almost an epithet. "Communist" sounds like a joke, like an epithet from the 80s that's gone out of style. I think it's right to recognize the victims of communism. It's not gratuitous for the president to recognize the victims because we too easily laugh off communism.

Those that accept that they live for others will always be slaughtered like domesticated cows. 100 million people cannot be slaughtered without, at least partially, giving their permission. It is not enough to just pay tribute to the departed because the evil will continue. As long as we are convinced that there is anything greater than our own life we can be made to sacrifice everything. These kids are cows volunteering to give their lives for some future utopia which can never be and is exploited by evil power hungry tyrants.

These stupid kids with their Soviet flags and Che T-shirts need to be reading Ayn Rand and know the truth of what they carry in their hands or wear on their bodies.

I think people like Bernie Sanders and other people such as university professors or members of political parties who are old enough to know better should be ashamed of themselves to poison the minds of young people with this bile.

We see each day the misery collectivism visits on mankind It's not abstract it is real and with us like a plague that crawls in our walls like rats carrying a black death.
I know people have to learn everything the hard way because our heads when we are young are like concrete but it is sorrowful that the experience of collectivism has to be included in that life lesson when we have at our fingertips the gift of freedom from the founders of our country.
