The Separation of Government & Marriage...The Gulch Way of Life

I'm guessing that "The State" would have no place in a marriage contract in The Gulch. I feel that historically government wasn't involved. Then at some point a currupt official noticed all these people getting married and and thought that the gov't should sanction the ceremony. This gave the gov't more power and more revenue. Gov't has no place in marriage today!

I agree. what a lot of people miss in the gay marriage debate is that the government really shouldn't be involved either way. what happened to separation of church and state?

That phrase doesnt exist in any legal founding documents. Simply put, the state cannot force religion on anyone, but the con of that is the state cannot force society to violate its religious beliefs by looting them and paying for it with that tax money, ie. abortion, marriage benefits to homosexuals, etc.

The problem is, even under the contract scenario, the government allows us families to be looters. Basically, when you tie tax breaks/benefits to any state sanctioned action, then the people have the right to restrict, limit, or sanction that action. This truth applies to marriage or contracts. The government should be out of the marriage business, AND they should stop all tax breaks based on marriage or family status. That is the only way to free up relationships from the entanglement of government. But as long as you are using my tax dollars, I HAVE A SAY!

and isn't that a problem? If everyone has a say on what another human being ought to be able to do, who can decide what they CAN do.
There should be no interaction between individuals or government and dictate what one CAN do.

Yes it is a problem. Which is why tax breaks need to be removed for married couples, or any advantages granted by the state because of marriage.

and then remove any tax breaks whatsoever?
I don't think it's right for the government to influence the way individuals live their lives via tax breaks for behaviors they consider favorable.

I would tend to agree with you except for Marriage is largely a religious contract between god, man and woman to me.

However government has hijacked this to add a civil union to the marriage union. Whatever Marriage means to you, it can mean that, but only if the government removes itself from marriage and remains involved only in the civil union aspects.

People of all views and belief systems need to have the civil aspects of what marriage provides equally and the government needs to get out of the rest of it.

100% agree & I'v ebeen saying this for years! The term "marriage" has historically been a RELIGIOUS ceremony between a man & a woman.
I think that legally, anyone should be able to "contract" themselves to anyone, with whatever the rights are that are spelled out in the contract. Private contracts can be written to accomodate any situation.
