I live near the town of Galt.

I happen to live near the little town of Galt. It's a sleepy place. I have a fondness for it. It sits out in the valley, in the flatlands. There is a very large place there that builds, of all things, dumpsters, drop bodies, recycle bins, etc. There's not much else there. Oh, there's a correctional facility. It is a favored place for Mexican immigrants to settle in, surrounded by the ag lands. Just thought I'd share. Many years ago when the economy had tanked (long before the Great Recession) I took a job there for near nothing, for a year.

Yeah, I know. California is an interesting place. As a guy who loves the Pacific, the mountains, etc. I really enjoy it. But, the mentally ill are in charge here now. Just this morning my wife and I were talking about Idaho...

Hey neighbor! My husband Vinnie and I are up in Lincoln. We're fuming about CA passing prop 63 (among other outrageous things), and have friends and clients who have moved to Idaho and love it. We certainly wouldn't rule it out in the future, but my Mom is here and we don't want to uproot her. Besides, we are very involved with a volunteer group called Project Appleseed, that teaches rifle marksmanship and American history, out in Sloughhouse, not far from you. In fact, I wanted to let you know we're running an event this weekend out at Sac Valley Shooting Range, so if you and your wife want to come out and learn rifle and hear the stories of April 19, 1775, we'd love to meet you. (Of course it'd be nice to meet you two, even off-range. :^) You can check out our last Appleseed event pictures here:

You can email us at Appleseed@DogAteMyMail.com. Hope to hear from you, whether you can make it or not.

That's real nice Ducky. Thanks for the info. Will be in touch, if not for this weekend - soon. That's a great shooting range, by the way. I loved to sit there and watch the long-range guys on the north edge of the place.

You're welcome! We just love that area, too, and that range has hosted our Appleseed events since around 2009. We're on Range 9 this weekend, from 7:30-5 both days. Please feel free to come visit, even if it's just to listen to history during lunch on Saturday or Sunday and maybe stick around for a bit to see what we're about. (Bring eye and ear protection if you do.) Hope to see you both out there!--Linda (aka "Ducky")

In the 50's I stayed at the Galt Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. One of the largest hotels with a mile long beach in Fort Lauderdale It was just a glorified motel, but was actually run by the Galt family. I pictured little Johnny growing up there with Mr. G. teaching him the business.

There's a little town in Colorado named Rand - in the North-Central part of the state. I've thought, occasionally, about a bunch of the right kind of people moving in, and what might happen. Sure to be interesting times for a while.
    hmmmmm...
