I only downvote when I disagree with a poster who negatively responds to a negative comment by the original poster on a positive response to another poster that I don’t happen to agree with. And then only on Tuesdays.

What specifically got down-voted? Was it wanton like a kid tagging a train car, or were all comments of a specific thread subtracted out? This has happened to me too.

Last night me dino got set off for seeing a zero beside the coal miner with Clinton post.
I scoped the post out and concluded it did not deserve a zero at all.
Just looked. It has a 5 beside it now. All is well.

Have seen it happen too on posts that you wouldn't think controversial or in poor taste. Probably just trolls...

    Keep posting!

Maybe Mike is right about getting rid of down-voting.
People can man or lady up and state why they disagree with something.

Maybe the ability to see who did up and down voting might be useful -- although no one seems to mind gratuitous up voting!

          Secretive
          +1 = What a wonderful person!
-1 = Dirty mouse coward troll!

          Openly owning it
+1 = Relative to your analytical and hopefully not overly emotional reaction and with your good name/moniker out there to be judged by others
          -1 = Same thing

Actually It does hide posts from Nazis, kooks, trolls. In the past it has worked somewhat by making their comments invisible.

But on principle, I agree, forms of censorship are usually bad. Maybe it is time to ditch down voting. #SpeakFreely

This is a common occurrence. We get trolls passing through, slashing the trees for spite. The only alternative I know of is to get rid of down-voting.

What got to me was seeing a 0 on nickusis's
When Unemployed Coal Miner Confronted Clinton.
Most undeserving! That's when I looked around and saw more zeros than I think I've seen before.
Had things to do outside the Gulch than review if everyone deserved their 0 or not.

I'll take my chances with the troll downvotes or even for disagreement by someone with particularly strong views. I occasionally comment as a stealthy devil's advocate and I hope for strong responses and discussion.
In 2 weeks the election cycle will be done and the downvotes will likely decline precipitously, imo.

As discussed at length before there is no cost to upvotes so they have little value. They are like federal reserve notes which are constantly inflated. Change the system to have all upvotes backed by reducing the upvoter's total points for every upvote. If I like what you have said, I should be willing to award you one of the points awarded to me.
    Make awards mean something again.
