I am a long time devotee of the book. I saw all 3 films with both appreciation of the effort as well as disappointment.
The main plot line missing from the films was the message of the villains. The most poignant aspect of the book was the exposure of the natural consequence of the policies the industrialized world has chosen.
Make the politicians and their cronies the stars to expose what we are fighting. The heroes don't need the limelight - their message and sense of life will shine for itself.
