    They didn't read AR until I recommended it to them, but they both grew up the hard way--poor in the Depression--and they insisted we do things on our own. AR would have loved my parents' philosophy.

    Were your parents devotees of AR as well? I am thrilled that my daughter is going to the private university I teach at, not only because it will cost both of us less but because she chose it ON HER OWN. My other daughter, well, I expect her to go to a state school. Ack!

    My parents wouldn't even let me apply at an in state college. They wanted me on my own far, far away...and they were right! I never went back home, except to visit.
