Society of Contract . Society of Status.

" In the Society of Contract man is born free, and comes into his inheritance with maturity. By this concept all rights belong to the individual. Society consists of individuals in voluntary association. The rights of any person are limited only by the equal rights of another person."

Paterson, Isabel. The God of the Machine (Kindle Locations 592-595). Qualiteri Publishing. Kindle Edition.

The implication is at maturity man has been trained to use thought and reason and make a decision. What role, what place to take in his or her society and, if there is to be a contract does he or she accept that contract. - or not.

The other version is a Society of Status. In the Society of Status nobody has any rights. The individual is not recognized; a man is defined by his relation to the group, and is presumed to exist only by permission. The system of status is privilege and subjection. Paterson, Isabel. The God of the Machine (Kindle Locations 595-597). Qualiteri Publishing. Kindle Edition.

In examining this little gem of wisdom I put the microscope squarely on the nature of the interpretation of the Constitution as regards the Military Conscription Act.

Then I remembered Thomas Jeffersons comments "I believe it the only one where every man, at the call of the law, would fly to the standard of the law, and would meet invasions of the public order as his own personal concern."

In our society the men if they choose not to 'voluntarily' sign up for the draft face a $50,000 fine and jail time. Women while still having no rights are given the privileged status of not being involuntarily volunteered for military service as are men. To make it more plain once a selectee is taken into the military they are required to voluntarily take an oath. One that means much to most professional soldiers and of course is completely bogus for one drafted. So which type of Society are we? Status and Privilege for some not for others or one that operates under free will contracts?

It's not just land, buildings, vehicles. and other belongings. If one is not free as an individual under a social contract to think, reason, and speak without paying an extortionate fee, if that status is not equal . There is no contract of any kind.

At the very least our system should be asking before the papers are signed for the draft or for a loan - Are you aware of the ramifications of what you are signing? It's purpose? Talked with family, friends and trusted advisers? Are you aware you are changing your status to volunteer on call for when and where needed up to age 45?

Common Decency and Politeness would demand no less. Why should we stoop to a lower level. As for the women? Equal treatment equal rights, equal responsibilities,. No free ride. They want the money for school amd the government job? They sign the form and take their chances. Applied Philosophy - Real Life

Perhaps the invisible understanding is that the contract is one's citizenship of the country?

I would of thought that would of applied to all able bodied men if and only if, the enemy had broached the gates of the country itself...not for a war in another country, even if we were, in fact, coming to the aid of our fellow man.

As for women...sure, if they choose to volunteer but I always thought it noble and elegant in our appreciation of women, to protect them and not ask them to fight as a man, However, was often the case in our revolution, upon our own soil, many women fought to protect the homesteads whilst the men were fighting to protect our country.

I know, I know...that's too idealistic for this day and age, but I still like and abide the ways of shivery.

To answer your question: I observe that we are Both, Status and Contracts...which ever interests the Kakistocracy at the time

Being somewhat chivalrous myself I still wonder with a shiver what some 300 pound Diesel is going to do when i hold the door open . First. The idea is that all citizens are trained and then given an opportunity t say yes or no. If Yes no problem on they go. If No should they becomes slaves or should the parent take out a loan to ship them elsewhere one way ticket. Should the age for choosing and along with the other rights, voting, making loans serving in the military take place at exactly age 18? Adulthood means accepting responsibiity it's not governed by age.

Group ownership experiments tried out by communities within a contract nation, as in the United States, have no bearing on the conditions of a genuine collective or status society. Such communities hold their land by private title, with what is called an undivided interest which is nevertheless individually divisible and open to suit for division.

Further, members enter voluntarily and can leave unhindered; while the group admits only selected candidates and may expel members; whereas in an authentic collective society the members are born into it, are not free to quit it, and must be either assigned and forced to accept a place or be exterminated.
