Sometime when you assume you only make an ass of yourself

In the last 4 days I've driven more than 1000 miles without incident, a feat considering the traffic on the strip and surrounding streets in Las Vegas.

Today, I was coming back from my UPS mailbox and this guy in white SUV with darkly tinted windows speeds past me in the lane to my right, slams his breaks as he comes to the two police cars sitting in the two rightmost lanes and then swerves abruptly to my lane a second before I entered the left turn lane at the light. Directly in front of me, when the arrow changes to green this guy quickly drives into the intersection about 3/4 toward the oncoming traffic. My thinking was that he was making a U turn, so I gave him plenty of room. Instead he guns his gas, his car jerks hard, and instead of making a U turn, he places his vehicle in to the leftmost lane of the cross traffic, the appropriate lane for the turn. I give my car gas, I was headed to the grocers which is the 2nd building from the corner, the first on the corner is a gas station. This guy swerves in front of my car, I have to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting him broadside, and then stops to carefully enter the gas station.

Pissed I pull into the grocers and park nearby. When the guy gets out, mid-20s black guy with BLM t-shirt and ball cap, I ask him, from about 20 feet in the adjacent parking lot, "wtf his problem is?" I told him that he could have caused a wreck and that not only did I nearly hit him broadside but I was almost rear ended by the pickup truck that was behind me. And finished with, "When the F did you get your license?"

The guy calls me a racist MF, and then orders me to back in my car.

Annoyed, but not stupid, I called this noodle brain a "pea brained idiot" and then fished for my car keys. He ran, not walked into the AM/PM.

Its 114 degrees here today - too hot for morons and mentally deficient racists.

Yeah, I know things could have gone much worse.

Had to share - this is the world we live in.

    I am reminded of a scene on p. 805 of AS in Atlantis where Galt, d'Anconia, et al. are discussing whether John Galt should go back to New York. D'Anconia says, "It's the chance dangers that I'm afraid of - the senseless, unpredictable dangers of a world falling apart...."

    Don't you realize that BLMs don't need to follow the rules? They have gotten it from the highest authority. If you do or say anything they don't like you are a racist and as such don't deserve to live. Glad you're still among us.

    Further proof that our ancestors should have picked their own cotton . Their laziness ended up ruining the greatest country ever seen on earth. Sad.

    I have a theory... (Translates as: "'War And Peace II,' dead ahead...")

    21st century America has become a nation of spoiled-brats-grown-large.
    IOW, this kind of completely outrageous, rules-be-damned behavior is the behavior of: The classic spoiled brat. And they are absolutely everywhere.

    I have exactly zero professional credentials in child psychology, but I have a good twelve years of direct experience as a kid (some would argue I have far more than this, but I try not to listen to those guys.)

    So think about it: What makes for a spoiled brat? It's a default on parenting resulting in a child who learns a number of toxic, interrelated lessons:

    - There are no tangible (or any other) negative consequences to bad behavior;
    - There are usually tangible, positive consequences to throwing a tantrum (you get that toy/treat/whatever that you wanted, with little effort required beyond some strenuous emoting);
    - There are no real limits to behavior;
    - Therefore (implicitly) there are no absolutes;
    - Therefore there is no "right" or "wrong";
    - Therefore I get to do whatever the hell I want, when I want, however I want - and I'll still probably get a gold star for it;
    - etc.

    When a kid steeped in this kind of zero-limits childhood reaches adulthood, guess what kind of adult you have? It's always possible for an individual to choose to transform himself into a self-disciplined, civilized person at some point, but my money goes with that being a rarity. No, generally what you get is an adult:

    - Who believes the rules do not apply to him - hey, there were never any negative consequences to bad behavior before, why should there be now?
    - Who expects anything he wants to be given to him, without effort, and if it isn't, is more than willing to "act out" in an adult version of a temper tantrum until it is given to him;
    - Who still believes that there are no ethical limits to behavior;
    - That there still is no right or wrong, and no absolutes (a belief thoroughly reinforced by his "educators");
    - And that therefore he gets to do whatever the hell he wants to do, regardless of basic, valid laws or of the rights of others.

    What you have is a standard-issue Democrat-Socialist and/or criminal - or just someone completely out-of-control, but who thinks he's done absolutely nothing wrong.

    Just zero conscience, zero introspection, zero sense of responsibility or of owning one's actions, zero grasp of justice or of simple consideration for the rights of others. Oh, and... someone who gets into a righteous lather at anyone who calls him on his outrageous behavior, as if it's that person's fault.

    So why do we live in an epidemic of spoiled-brat-ism? That... would be the other half of my theory, but this is long enough already.

    'Bet some of you could guess where I'm going with this though. Think: Broad cultural phenomena in an historical context - in the manner of Hari Seldon's "psychohistory" in Asimov's "Foundation" trilogy (for you fellow sci-fi freaks out there.)

    I hope conceal carry (I know you live in the Phoenix area). I got my Conceal Carry Permit three years ago and I practice often but would like to get some proffessional training. With that being said, I carry every time I leave the house. Although where I live there is little likelyhood of any confrontation. I sympathize with you that there are some idiot drivers around both African Americans, Hispanic(for lack of any other term) who come up from Phoenix to Sedona and drive like they own the road. But, I just use my horn and they give me the finger. Then I wish that my Truck would transform into a Mad Max vehicle. If they end up in the same shopping area I'm alert to them but don't confront them. Even though my Id is saying "Go ahead make my day!". So, conceal carry is that being aware and self control is of the upmost importance.

    Charles Murray’s “The Bell Curve” is a book about IQ and naturally the left called it racist. It was racist because Murray compiled already available statistics and put them in a form available to all. Those statistics make clear that the average IQ of Blacks is about 90 while the overall population average is 100. In many ways this does not matter. However if you live in a city it should inform your approach to living there. When I drive I assume the others on the road are going to move erratically and irresponsibly. The darker the tint on the windows, the more defensive I become. Confronting strangers is always dangerous, confronting dumb strangers is worse. My advice; always expect stupid aggressive behavior, keep a low profile and always, always be able to defend yourself.

    So what was the assumption? You avoided an accident, which would be a testament to your reaction time and awareness.

    So maybe your assumption was that the guy "had" a brain...never mind the size of a pea...seems to me you were being quite generous in your assumption.

    Many concealed carry instructors, gun stores, lawyers, reporters, and self-appointed authorities perpetuate the myths, unfortunately. Open carry in North Las Vegas is alive and well. Open carry cannot be prohibited anywhere by counties, cities, or towns; state law is the only source of laws regarding firearm carry.

    He probably thought you were responsible for slavery in the first half of the 19th century and that manners and civilized behavior is only for him to receive.
