Down Votes without Arguments?

To all Gulchers, if you choose to down vote, please at least provide a reason for your vote. It's disconcerting to get a down vote on a post with zero explanation. Please take accountability for your decision. Thank you.

Sorry but sometimes it is rather obvious imho and I do not have or desire to invest the time to belabor the obvious.

Texas is SO big that, back in the '70s when the speed limit was 55 mph, my dad drove 14 hours, and we never left the state.

When the temperature gets over 95, that is a bit much for me. When I lived in Houston and Beaumont, it was routinely 95, but I don't remember going higher than that back then. If you get away from the Gulf, it gets a little too hot for me in TX.

Well, it's a big state. A lot of climate zones and many, many other character types. Maybe they just live in the dry side of the state and got upset that I misrepresented the climatic conditions. I wouldn't be the first to make such an error, but no excuses. Thanks J for not down voting an over simplified, if silly, statement about the lone star state.

Downvoting without an argument does happen occasionally around here, but fortunately not very often. A Texan (other than me) must have taken umbrage at your comments about our state.

What's the concept behind down voting? Disuade others from reading a post? Try to influence the discussion before it starts? The same behavior we see from the media? If you don't like what someone says shut them up or discredit them?

Down voting is censorship light. If you don't like what someone posts, post a rebuttal and argue your point.
