"Elections should be held on April 16th - the day after we pay our income taxes. That is one of the few things that might discourage politicians from being big spenders." - Thomas Sowell

No amount of threatening to be upset and write scathing letters will ever change a politicians desire to be able to use violence to coerce behavior of its subjects.

Looked it up. Emancipation Day is on the 16th. This being a leap year, the 15th should leap to Sunday and the 16th should leap to Monday next year during a non leap year.
So next year, Tax Day may be the 14th on a Friday or the 17th on a Tuesday with federal workers getting another 3-day weekend.
    Or so I'm supposing.

I found out why tax day was on 18th. It's because the 15th was Emancipation Day. Federal workers in D.C. get that day off. How nice for them to have a holiday since they are so over worked.

Yes! Inflation is the single biggest problem in our government's fiscal policy - or should I say the Fed's. It is a tax on everyone because it arbitrarily pushes low-income earners into higher and higher tax brackets over time. It is a tax on savers and investors because it devalues those savings and investments which form the true backbone of industry. And worst of all it enables the Federal Government to continue to spend more than they take in because of not only all of the above, but the cheap rates at which the government may borrow (or simply create from thin air) the money on which they fund their largess.

I think we should do away with the elections altogether. We all know its a show. It doesn't matter who wins. They were all picked from the same corrupt swamp.

LOL, allosaur! Never doubt me. :) I will never find peace until Lois Lerner is in handcuffs and a yellow jumpsuit.

Suzanne, I almost wrote that you owe rats an apology before I took note of your "blood sucking" modifiers.
Then I recalled how the IRS illegally denied certain groups tax exempt status (to wit, to suck the life out of such groups) because they are conservative instead of lib.
Yes, it is only the illegal denial of a lib group for having tax exempt status that is worthy of prosecution during the rule of a regime such as King Barry's.
Just ask Louis Lerner who is still walking around free as bird.

Until one begins to understand that taxes are theft, elections are a slave fastening his own chain, and politicians of any stripe are the enemy--we will never have liberty. It is utter ridiculousness to think that an election can improve freedom.

I agree with you. Many have maintained that a national sales tax would be a good solution because people could see how much are taxes for every time they purchase something but the average moron just doesn't pay attention. He might notice it initially when the sales tax one up after a while he would just get fatalistic about it and March in lockstep. The only act that they might take is to try to get the politicians to give them a stipend to offset the sales taxes. Of course we all know where that stipend would come from!

I always admire the thoughts of Thomas Sowell. However, in this case, I doubt if anything would come of it. As I perceive it, the voting public is so ignorant of consequences that they will very likely be unable to connect what they pay in taxes with who they vote for. I used to have faith in the common sense of the average voter. I no longer have that faith. I let my emotions rule my reason and guess what? Emotions were wrong. Dear Mr. Sowell, I think you can influence most of the ninnies who vote by describing how candidates part their hair rather than anything that they actually do.

We should keep the liberals' feet to the fire in terms of demanding accountability for results on their programs. They get to make promises now, collect money. And then give pathetic results

I suddenly regret deleting something in my email where Branco tax day cartoons were sidelined, making that forgotten something hard to find when Old Dino gets a ton of conservative email.
So I did the next best thing. I typed in Branco Tax Day Cartoons and let the search engine do the rest~

For some reason tax day for this year is on Monday the 18th. Hope this helps you to enjoy this weekend.

    Q) What is the difference between a politician and a thief?
    A) A politician robs you legally!

Inflation Taxes Explained: capital gains are not adjusted for inflation (and what a joke official numbers are!) so that if your investment say over 10 years does not keep up with inflation you not only have a nominal loss but then you are taxed on the nominal gain! Example: buy in at 20K, 10 years later investment worth 28K (4% annual gain), so nominal gain of 8K, but b/s inflation averaged 5% over ten years the adjusted capital base should be 30K; so real loss is 2K and then you get taxed 15% on the nominal 8K "gain"! Welcome to the American Nightmare were capital is hollowed out.

Brilliant. Actually, Michigan Taxpayers United filed a law suite against the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners April 14th for illegal taxation. Seems the Board of Commissioners ran out of millage and resurrected three laws written in 1903 to 1916 to raise $26 million to fund their pet projects. Unconstitutional in Michigan to tax without voter approval. Should be a landmark decision and serve notice that we are tired of this behavior.
