Jeff Crank is from Colorado Springs and also CFO for Americans For Prosperity. Got this email this morning:

Dear kaila:
So many citizens of Black Forest have suffered tremendous losses this past week. I’ve lived in Black Forest for fifteen years and have so many friends who have lost their homes in this tragedy.

There are countless more whose homes were saved by the fearless work of the fire fighters, first responders, law enforcement and others who have dedicated nearly every breath over the last week to extinguishing the fire that nearly consumed the community.

Last night my family and I had a wonderful experience – we went to a rally thanking these heroes as one exhausted shift came in and the next team headed out to fight the fires. While many of the fire fighters were taking pictures of the large crowd cheering them on, all of these heroes had ear-to-ear grins on their sooty, gritty faces.

Tonight, Sunday night, many of our grateful citizens are going to meet again at 7 p.m. at Pine Creek High School to cheer on these men and women who have saved so much for our community. My family will be there and I hope you will join us with your signs of thanks and grateful cheers.

Most importantly, we want to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Please make sure that you are parked fully off the road and in a safe location. Additionally, please stand where you are not in the way – stay off the road and do not slow down these responders. We need to ensure the safety of participants and those we are thanking.

Let’s make sure that these men and women- some of whom traveled a very long way to help fight the battle in Black Forest understand how grateful and appreciative we are as a community.

I hope to see you and your family tonight at 7 p.m. at Pine Creek High School.

Jeff

Protecting property... a legitimate purpose of government. Tough job. They deserve thanks. Now, if the EPA would let people protect their own property and create fire breaks, without bureaucratic interference... I remember the recent fires in California where residents were told they couldn't clear dead brush because it might destroy an habitat for some vermin...
