What has government done for you?

My brother-in-law and I were discussing the coming election and he is afraid that if someone like Trump becomes president Washington will be in total grid lock. My question to him was "What has the government done in the past 20 years that was a benefit to you?" He had no answer. As far as I can see all the new laws and regulations have benefited various special interest groups, but none has benefited us 'unconnected' folks. Am I wrong?

Government has increased my aggravation level, particularly in recent weeks as I had to do taxes for my wife and I, for each child, for each child's trust, for my parents, for my mother's trust and estate, and for my mother's estate net worth at end of life.

They are already in gridlock. Which I don't think is really a bad thing. The purpose of government is force, and when they use it, some people win and others lose. Less of it is better for all.

Personally, I want government to do 3 things and do them well. 1st, protect my freedom, 2nd, spend as little money as possible doing it and 3rd, leave me and my family alone to live our lives as we see fit. IMHO, they are failing in all accounts, at all levels of government.
