I'm very happy to have landed in the Gulch...Atlas Shrugged was given to me, at the age of 17, by my mother. It profoundly shaped me. Nearly 30 years later, I have presented the book to my 16 year old son after finding he had purchased 1984 by George Orwell. I once read that every H.S. student should read Atlas Shrugged before attending college. The world might be a different place if they did.
Believe it or not, Atlas Shrugged was actually assigned reading for my AP English class in my junior year of high school. That's how I was introduced to Ayn Rand. However, I don't think that's a common book assignment (unfortunately). My friends and family members who went to other schools never came in contact with the book...
