Not that much really. But it would be nice if the writer could do a check on the spelling of the name of the person he's writing about! Good grief! These people are freaking worthless! Devoid of any credibility.
I think a reader can learn a lot about Ayn Rand by reading her books. It is impossible for a writer to keep their personal lives out of their work. People who write articles trying to make money off the back of someone's good name is called a looter. It is Ayn Rand's name that has value, not the person writing about her. That says everything.
I have little interest in her personal life. She was human and therefore imperfect like everyone else. Have you noticed how often the most brilliant minds of history have shortcomings in the area of personal relationships and social skills? It would seem that to excel in some areas the human mind often sacrifices some other skill set…
Anyway, beyond that little interest in the nature of humanity, any particulars of anybody else’s life seem as tawdry gossip and none of my business. Many times I have learned more than I desired about her in defense of her ideas because of ad hominem attacks against her. Respectfully, O.A.
I didn't read this book, but I recently saw the movie (same title) and I admit I was a little surprised by some of Rand's antics, but I surely didn't dismiss a single letter of what I read in Atlas. I actually thought the author (wife of Nathaniel Brandon) was a more obscure person than Rand, but their personal lives and private choices aren't my business.
"The Passion of Ayn Rand" movie isn't a 100% accurate portrayal of reality. Remember, it is an interpretation of a memoir. That is, essentially twice mediated.
I did put that into account, for a split second, just prior to deciding it didn't matter one iota to me in either my opinions of individualism or about AS. I moved on pretty quickly. :)
I thought of those antics while reading her book 'We The Living.' She pretty much told the story well before she lived it in real life. In the end, I'm glad she worked things out, but I don't know what Barb Brandon was thinking. If I were her, I don't think I'd want to write a book about it.
I do not care if a person is slut (either gender) and hates anything to do with religion. If they have some good thoughts to share and can express them in a way that helps me clarify my own understanding of the world around me, I am interested in listening and learning.
She put together what is to date the best set of philosophical rules any man or woman has put together, most of it makes perfect sense to any reasonable person. Her own flaws caused a few points and ideals that do not make sense, but those are few and far between.
Why would I discard all the intelligence she offered because she was a atheist scank in her personal life?
That would be like calling Bill Clinton a bad ambassador (the part of President he was very good at) because he got a blow job from Monica. The two are disconnected. If however you are talking about him as role model for future Americans, breaking your word to your wife is something I would rather my kids not do, it tends to make life a bit miserable.
