I loved Moby Dick (own a hard copy for more than a few decades) and knew, because of my interest in history, that it was inspired by the real life events of the whale-ship Essex. So, despite reading many piss poor reviews (a 2 star rating on Moviephone?) I bucked the witless critics and went to see In the Heart of the Sea. Out of 10 stars, I grade every move (drives my wife nuts), I give this 9.

If you have an opportunity and you enjoy entertaining historical fiction, I highly recommend this film. I just dropped some coin to pickup a hard cover of the book, it was that impressive.

To think a whale could turn on its attackers. The arrogance for men to think a whale wouldn't defend itself...
