Ideally, the actor playing John Galt in Atlas Shrugged Part 3 will appear to have jumped right off of the pages of Atlas Shrugged. However, in our quest to find the perfect John Galt, some tough choices may have to be made. That's where you come in.

If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

A. As long as the actor looks and acts like John Galt, I don't care what his personal beliefs are.
B. The actor needs to possess a deep understanding of, and passion for, Ayn Rand's ideas first and foremost.

I think A is most important. I have a deep understanding of and passion for Ayn Rands ideas ... does that mean I should be the actor? Of course not! If someone does a great job playing a criminal does that mean that are one for real? No, of course not. Just find a great actor that is willing to play the role and will accurately represent John Galt's character. That's most important. No one will go see the movie if the acting sucks.

I agree 100%. Anthony Hopkins was stellar in Silence of the Lambs, but no one for a moment believes that he's a psychotic cannibal in real life. He just played one really well.

I think the age isn't as important as the actor needs to be believable. DB Sweeney is a great actor and capable of the part. But I'm not making the movie. I also like the first actress in Atlas Shrugged I, better than other actress from part II. Jim Caveziel or Timothy Olyphant would also be very great in the part.

In order for the part to be believable, the age has to be a big part of it. Lots of people are promoting Gary Sinise, but he's almost 60. No matter how well he acts, no one would believe him as a young and vibrant John Galt.

An actor who exudes integrity and subscribes to the ideology of American values and capitalism, objectivism. Clint Eastwood is the actor who comes to mind;if not, perhaps he would have a suggestion.

We think that "B" would clearly help. However, we have great respect for the casting skills you have demonstrated for ASI and ASII. Obviously, you have a greater awareness of your budget, your growing circle of enthusiastic supporters, and subtle elements that work together to create successful movies. Of all the people you might choose, we hope you find someone like Jon Voight ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Voight ) who exemplifies conservative values, a respect for America and her First Principles, and the courage to stand and be counted. We're sure there are many others. Perhaps the best "John Galt" will be the actor we have never seen before. Perhaps he will bring out the essence and courage of the person that Ayn Rand dreamed he would be. Our great respect and encouragement for all that you do. God Speed to you in bringing America a wonderful and timely message. All the Best! Liza and Jack

Only a man who is truly the ideal man can bring life to John Galt. Also, Rand does not speak of Galt's appearance so much: He was thin and had brown hair. Well, that narrows it down!

    Strong Faced, Weathered Look
Mel Gibson not exactly an insider
or Jim Cavezel he should have matured by now.
Keep it very close to the original Book please
we do not need updates for relevancy...

    > If you had to choose, which would you consider the number one priority in casting John Galt?

Don't cast like you did in Part II, which was awful. Part I was good for a number of characters, by comparison.

Given Rand's theory of art and aesthetics, you really have to pay attention to how the characters look if you want to be true to her vision.

As for Galt, Clint Eastwood in his late twenties?

Ok so I picture strength in Galt along with humility, intelligence, kindness, not blinded by emotions yet a higher concern for humans in general. The actor who'd play Galt can be an idealist in real life, while the opposite; a known wild, idiotic actor who lacks public respect in general, would detract from the story, movie, and greatness of Ayn Rand's brilliant novel.
Therefore, actors who I feel could convey the true character of John Galt would be:
Eric Bana, Dermot Mulroney, Jim Caviezel.
Although these actors are no doubt higher paid actors, as I peered into the dark shadow of Galt's face, listening to his voice while he reached for Dagney's hand in the final scene of A. S. 2, I couldn't help but picture these actors(or someone extremely similar) for there strength yet gentleness & fortitude.but that's just my opinion :)

If you have an actor who does a great job depicting Galt and then disses the ideas in interviews or otherwise reveals himself to be an idiot, that undermines much of what you are trying to accomplish with the movies.

BRAD BEYER actor from Jerich. But he has got to be a "believer" and walk the walk. No actor can just repeat lines and do John Galt justice.

My pick is Keanu Reeves. I don't have a clue about his understanding of Ayn Rand but he was very convincing in The Matrix. He certainly has the physical attributes and can play the role of a very smart person.

Daniel Craig would be ideal, but he might be
to expensive. Oddly enough, Swedish actor
Micheasl Nyqvist might work (they played
the same role in the Millennium trilogy,
in the English and Swedish versions, respectively). OK, Nyqvist might have a Swedish accent, but maybe John Galt hung out
with Ragnar Dannaskjöld. (Or, Nyqvist could
    play Ragnar).

I think Matthew McConaughey would make a good Galt. Not sure about his political stance, but since I have not heard that he is a flaming progressive, I hope he leans to the right and stays below the radar in Hollywood.

It would only be fitting for the actor to be played by one that supports the true meaning of capitalism; and that may not be representative of one specific political party, but believed by the individual himself. Half the art of being a good actor is "believing" the character you are portraying!

Remember Shane, the movie, with Alan Ladd? Like that. Can't get him, he is already in a valley. T1, terminator 1, Michel Biehn fits direct description .
