one of my best friends was a pilot of the prop-driven F-4
in WW2, as an enlisted man, and now the USAF is
doing it again. . Hooray! -- j

I went to aircraft maintenance officers' school for about
4 months before reporting to my first duty station. . when I
got to that first airbase, I found that I would be working with
a Chief Master Sergeant named Walker. . when I got to
the office that first morning, I walked up to Chief Walker
and stuck out my hand, saying "I am Lieutenant Mason,
reporting in." . he taught me more than I ever thought
    that he could. . you don't make E9 by accident. -- j

In my very first leadership class the instructor wrote on the chalk board.

    Officer, Commissioned
    Officer, Warrant
    Officer, Non-Commissioned

Act and prepare accordingly. It only takes one artillery shell to make a Corporal a Lieutenant."

I taught all my troops and students the same. Sergeants as you observed are Sirs in Training.

when I was commissioned I owed the first saluting sergeant
a dollar, cash, and when he said "Ahem, Lieutenant, Sir,"
I responded with a quick return salute and a buck and a
"Yes, Sir, and Thank You!" to some amazement. . sergeants
    are sirs too. -- j

Why not? You don't need to waste an expensive education one something that has been proven since flight began. Neither does one need 2020 uncorrected. Nerds can now qualify to fly and once they are armed who will be the first Nerdace? Lieutenants can go back to important jobs like passing canapes at the White House. "Ahem Lieutenant. A can of peas is not quite what the First Lady had in mind." "Thank you Sergeant."
