Who named Jihadi John?

Is it just me, or did anyone else take note of the fact that they gave Jihadi John a "Christian" name?

I know it was catchy, but I wonder if it wasn't done, deliberately. Why didn't the press name him Jihadi Jamil, or something like that.

    I figured it was just another way at protecting moderate Muslims from some imagined persecution or, better yet, a poor attempt at disguising the Islamic ties to these heinous acts.
    But, then, I do tend to be a bit of a conspiracy theorist, at times .

    It was my understanding is that because of his British accent and as a nod to one of the "Four Lads; John, Ringo, Paul, and George. Dumb I know, but was what I heard.
