Adding to my appreciation of Going Galt

So, last night I'm talking with an activist who is trying to orchestrate a movement against a recent law in California - a law that forces medical treatment. There are similar laws being cooked up across the nation now and this lady, along with many others I know, seem to think we can just rise up and stop it. I don't think so. I think the public actually wants forced medicine. They're ready for it, they want it, and they're gonna get it. Eventually, I'll watch from a quiet, seaside village far away. But, her argument in favor of fighting caught my attention - because I think it's flawed. She made the point, "Only 1.5% of the citizens stood up to England and we won the revolution!" I don't see the comparison. For one, we were here and England's over there. The citizens of England at that time were settled in with having their asses handed to them all the time. That's what I see here. Anyway...I'm just venting here. Thoughts?

Seniors on Medicare are money cows. If the gov.will pay for it, the doctors will do it.

Similar issue in my family, but handled with good sense by the health care providers: The Old Man is almost 92, in pretty good health for his age but still 92. His doc recently advised him that at his age he has high odds of a certain type of prostate cancer that, left untreated, leaves a life expectancy of ten years. He asked Dad if he wanted the test to reveal the presence of any cancer.

The Old Man laughed at him. "Ten years? I'll be delighted to last ten more years."

He didn't get the test. He told me that fell into the "better off not knowing" category as far as he was concerned. His doc agreed.

Interesting - both parts. Regarding the near-end-of life care: I believe that the system is really geared toward maximizing revenue from elderly people. Statements lately by people like Bill Gates regarding death panels...that's the interest further up the line speaking out, via this new socialized system, saying "Hey, we don't want to pay for that anymore. Let's let em die and hire ten teachers." Surreal, really.

I had heard the argument before that only 1-2% were active and never really believed it. Beyond that, the differences in the situation are too many to take it seriously. It's not a matter of whether or not Colonists fought back. This would be like the British citizens fighting back. Probably wouldn't have gone too well. Look at them now. No thanks...

If you look at what's happening in Vermont, where doctors are being pushed either into large systems or quitting - that's the future. Like in many things, the trend is toward more centralized control. Goodbye incentives...

I haven't heard of this law but it reminds me of being at a UU event a few years back. Two elderly people told me they've been hospitalized for various problems told me every time they go in they wish the healthcare people could face this question: "I'm close to the end of life. Is this one worth treating, or should we be looking at palliative care only?" They said they feel like even the doctors can't face this question. They seemed like happy people, full of life, although one used me or any young man nearby for support when she need it. I was 36 y/o and amazed at how candid they were about the end of their lives.

Regarding separating from England, my understanding is at least a third favored it.

I agree there is a problem, because the socialists are intermingled in our neighborhoods, not over there or just in the East or something like that. Besides the only way to over through the US military is by ideas - see how well it is working in Iran, Afghanistan with Islam.
