The road ahead.

I've been thinking about where we headed as a species and wonder if the straight line we are striving for isn't s rail but rather a trail or smoke trail to be more precise. Should it be our goal to archive as much truth and knowledge as possible for future generations to pick up the pieces and advance society to the next level and I do mean next level as in space exploration. I do not believe that this current generation can reach it before the next collapse, but maybe our grandkids can pick up the pieces if we maintain enough intellectual capital in our gulch.

We see the these "collapses" in history, but they're rare, and difficult to predict/manage. I can't imagine Romans foreseeing the eastern half would break away and the western side would turn into a Holy Roman Empire, and then coming up with a plan to transfer their knowledge to the Arabic Empire so after the collapse it could be rediscovered in some future Renaissance. That's too Hari Seldon.

Nothing like that is happening right now, so I see it as moot.

I do think enough people are excited about going to space that people will do it. In parallel, I hope people will build in remote regions as a baby-step Gulch. I can't imagine people not going to space, but I don't think real space colonies will happen in the next 30 years.
