Talk about a caretaker Speaker...Boehner apparently stated he might reverse and stay in as the Speaker. He's fishing for someone to step up as he would then face the vote and get kicked out.
Talk about Gingrich? Why not? He was a successful leader back then he can at least act as a mediator and consultant. Fact is he's just the opposite of Boehner and the Rinos. Were I in the group of 40 I would at least make the call and ask for experienced advise. Be the first time since the Contract with America for a breath of fresh non left wing air.

Oh, and the Contract was such a resounding success. Gingrich was the first in a long line of spelunkers.

As I recall ut was. The opposition among them the Supreme Court and other bottom feeders got most of it nullified afterwards. Point was he got it down on time as stated. Something Boehner wouldn't do and the two Mac's couldn't do. Watching the demise of term limits for example really crushed my last bit of respect for the whole system. Especially when they reversed the attitude on recall for Senators and Representatives. McCarthy or whatever now sez not for me Speaker. Of course he is the head slopper at the main pig trough of the nation. Wonder what his offshore accounts look like. That sentence needs one of those combination Question and Exclamation Marks.

Obeyme thing and Pelosillynni is another thing. No one else is as serious as two dogs tok'n on 55% max tax AND an addition VAT every step of the way on top of all the other value subtracted taxes we already have - every step of the way. One can only get down on their knees and prey to whatever religious or secular Supreme Being floats your boat and pay o pray she has a heart attack and the replacement isn't another Biden or LBJ. Barbra might even be moved to release another re-re-re-mix so should have some money left here to send out of the country. That's some serious don't put ideas into of a veteran bogarter.

I got an e-mail from Newt just yesterday. It was an opinion piece that he wrote, giving his support to McCarthy for Speaker. Talk about bad timing! I used to really like Newt, and I have many of his opinion pieces saved in my Politics file. But he's uneven. Sometimes he says stuff that makes me say "yeah, this guy really understands the problems". Then other times he starts to sound like liberal Dimocrats with his policy proposals. It was Newt that first proposed the idea of individual mandates for health care. He has an active mind, and he gets carried away by new ideas. He just needs to sit back and reflect on those ideas sometimes to see if they are consistent with his Conservative ideals.

Since you have the address and I think it would take 218 to select him anyway....point out what you said and say thanks For the Contract with America . Like the Perot effort it lit some fires and cause some interest and those chickens are coming home to roost. I see to the right of the screen your hillsdale post. go for it.

I'm less concerned with "why" than with celebrating the fact that he did pull out. Now if his fellow-RINO Chavetz will follow suit, we might actually get a Republican in the Speakership, for the first time in decades.

Daniel Webster would be acceptable, also Trey Gowdy.

The alleged affair certainly would stain his image to the rest of the Republicans, but I think that the more pressing matter is that he was soundly rejected by a major caucus of the Republicans who were very firmly behind Webster. And as a reminder, Webster was the second choice when Boehner was originally selected as speaker.

Remember, the 2012 and 2014 elections that saw the Republicans gain the House and then widen that lead were based on promises to the electorate that the Republicans would start opposing many of Obama's actions. Boehner caved on every single one of those promises, of which the Cromnibus spending bill, defunding Obamacare, and defunding Obama's illegal amnesty program were only three. When one throws in the current CR talks, the okay for the TPA/TPP, and the current discussions for the Iran deal - all of which Boehner was pressuring to rubber-stamp AND add on the retributive attacks on fellow Republicans for not voting the way Boehner wanted on key votes, and it is no wonder that not only the majority of Republicans in the House, but more than 60% of Republicans in the electorate want him GONE.

McCarthy added to his own problems by back-stopping Boehner, then made several very high-profile media gaffes - most notably the comments implying that the Benghazi hearings were just witch hunts against Clinton - and I think he offended even the rank-and-file Republicans who might have voted for him.

From a post on Drudge I see that someone from Homeland Security posted on Wikipedia that he and Renee Ellmers are having an affair. Could that be the problem???

McCarthy is Chair of Ways and Means. The number one job for tending to the pig troughs. All those paged have little bitty pig ear marks around the edges. He's not going to leave a sinecure of wealth like that.

On Fox News there was mentioned that if the Republican caucus can't pick a speaker of the House that they look outside the beltway for someone to be speaker. Maybe those of us who are members of the Gulch who are not employed should send resumes to congress. There could be a Ayn Rand Objectivist as speaker of the house of rep.

The first I heard of anything in the wind was the day before the withdrawal, a written reference on Fox to a letter written by Rep. Walter Jones (I'm paraphrasing) "warning anyone not squeaky clean not to run for Speaker". After McCarthy dropped out, Shepard Smith confronted Jones live on Fox, and, if you have any interest now, see the link for the exchange, but, again paraphrasing: "What do you know, Rep. Jones, about McCarthy that we don't know?". Whether that letter had anything to do with anything, I have no idea. http://video.foxnews.com/v/4543696841...
