A difficult read.. Not abstruse, but compelling and difficult to encompass

I don't know how many here are fans of Glenn Beck but the man does write compelling scenarios.
His latest, "It IS About Islam", is a riveting history of what has been, and is, happening in the Middle East and the Islamist movement. Read and be alarmed for the time is fast approaching when we must make a decision: acquiescence and capitulation or total and merciless war.

What I was looking for was to see if any one had read the book and formed an opinion regarding the subject matter. Having cursorily studied Islam over the last 40 years, in various media, i have come to the conclusion they cannot be reasoned with and must be utterly destroyed. An unpalatable solution but the only alternative.

There was a lecture given a few decades ago by this guy named Rush Limbaugh (If I recall, it was either right before or right after the launch of EIB) about Successful Broadcast Media Business Models - how to find and establish a target audience, build a personality to attract that audience, selling yourself to advertisers, franchising yourself to a larger market share (the EIB network), and most of all... having fun with what you do, and making it fun for your customers.

In a way, he was a pioneer in his field... and he's done well by it - so well that most of the "political based talk show properties" (Beck, Stewart, Hannity, Flanders, et.al.) follow this same model, and in so doing enjoy a modicum of success... telling people what they want to hear. (I wonder if any of them were in that same lecture hall...)

It was so successful entire major networks now follow the same model - the big shift from "reporting the news" to blatant Infotainment. It follows (what I call) the EIB model to a tee.

I am in direct opposition to CC's views.
People vary, many are not logical in any sense, beyond emotional to utterly irrational. They support causes requiring sacrifice. To make it worse, they sacrifice others (us) as well as themselves. Our news websites, papers and TVs are full of it despite the attempt at whitewash - " it is nothing to do with Islam".

He gets paid to get people alarmed. People who do this start with a kernel of truth and take it to extremes. The extremes are not true. Most people want freedom to do/say what they want and jobs that provide money for iPhones and all the global brands. Fortunately for humankind, understanding the world through science and reality is a big part of getting people their iPhones. It's an uphill battle for extremists to say, "These global brands are seducing you and destroying your way of life! Follow us into a pre-industrial existence." It was hard when people could put dishes on their roofs and pick up Baywatch. With the Internet it's impossible. Extremists have strange bedfellows in Glenn Beck because they both live on people being scared and alarmed. Don't buy into it. Most people want their kids to get good jobs, and that means learning to understand the world, and that leads to rejecting extremist religious ideology.
