The points system.

I want to discuss the point system, specifically when a point should be added and when it should be taken away. I don't want to discuss whether non pay people should be rewarded producer of the week. The point system is being abused from my point of view and I would also like to know who has access to take away more than one point.

I think you guys have pretty much spelled it out.

To specifically address one of the questions ... nobody can add or remove more than one point per comment / post.
You can vote something up, you can vote something down. You can also remove (without voting in the other direction) a vote that you previously made.

There is also a very short synopsis on points in the faq: http://www.galtsgulchonline.com/faq
Maybe we should add to that.
There have been some other discussions on points in the not too distant past, I'll see if I can find a link or two. In the meantime, we definitely encourage the discussion.

I understand that with 50,000 points and $1.50, there are some places where you can get a cup of coffee. So keep track of those valuable points!

Thank you. I found it, This is how I thought it worked then I started doubting it.
      Voting on Posts
In Galt's Gulch Online your vote means, "I found this interesting," not "I agree with this."

Once registered, you can vote up or down on all of the links In Galt's Gulch Online based on whether you liked or disliked them. If more people like a post than dislike it, it will rise up in the ranking, appear on the hot page and be seen by more users. Upon voting, the highlighted score will have changed +1 or -1 depending on your vote up or down, respectively. Regardless of your own personal point accumulation, all votes effect post scores equally.

As a general rule, vote up what you liked (and want to see more of) and vote down what you disliked (and what you want to see less of).

      Voting on Comments
While the same general rules apply to voting on the comments of others, downvotes should really only be used for irrelevant comments, not ideas you necessarily disagree with. Also, don't be afraid to upvote a comment you disagree with if you think it is furthering the discussion. This will result in the most interesting and relevant discussions moving to the top of the comment page.

As near as I have figured it out you may add or subtract punts from anyone's points one point at a time. I have seen nothing that prohibits multiple up or down clicks. Also you cannot promote your own point count.
I have only twice upper a point count and never lowered one. but I think I have it figured out. Mul;tiple points are still a ?mark

Just performed a little experiment. When I gave you an up point, then clicked it again, the point disappeared - kinda like it was binary, on/off. After giving a point up, then refreshing, it seemed to disappear and the point total remained at one. Refreshing a second time showed the point total at 2. Trying to give another point up caused the point total to again return to 1.
So from that I would conclude that an individual can only give one point, and subsequent attempts only cause the status to switch from 1 to 0 and back.
If one attempts to give oneself a point, that point is removed (such that the original post was the first +1 point and subsequent attempts just toggle on/off).
      Hope that helps.

I have found that point total does not change when a button is clicked. The update will show when you exit the Gulch and sign back in. If you are listed in the attendees it will update there after a refreshes, the point total by your name doesn't

The totals in the "Online Now" and top points earners will refresh periodically throughout the day.
The point total by your name should too. If it is not, that is an issue. I'll look into that and correct if needed.
