NSA Surviellance Reform

I listened to Barack talk about ending the practice of keeping records of surveillance. I see this as a smoke screen. If they delete records we can't keep track of abuses. As long as they still monitor messages they are still capable of the same abuses. I have often thought that one big danger in this program is that the politically connected have access to business records in the form of pricing agreements , and changes that effect the value of stock or offer unfair competition.

What a bunch of waffling hooey! He said absolutely nothing! His fence sitting has become a razor's edge of ridiculousness. If he's not careful, he will vivisect himself.

Even on Fox News you got casters arguing that safety and security are valid arguments for "compromise" on the Bill of Rights.

Agreed! I was amazed at the number of so called "conservatives" who jumped behind the massive invasion of rights known as the Patriot Act. Then there were all the praises heaped on law enforcement and the compliant citizens after the boston bombing... That was as scary day to me, listening to the police state tactics being employed and everyone praising it as if it was wonderful...

I DVR The Five every day and have since Beck jumped, but lately I have been having a harder and harder time agreeing with them on anything. There seems to be a "Protect me!" NYC mentality since 9/11 (because they are the obvious #1 terror target) that many of them might not have if they lived in a small city or rural area.

      Re: Hiraghm,

Perhaps we need to consider that at least on Fox they are not advocating this form of spying on Americans. They are however debating the question and thereby raising issues on both side of the questions. I at least have not seen any Fox people advocating on behalf of the Obama Administration view that all is permissible.
