Long over due. But since the People are becoming dumber and dumber, and most don't even know what freedom nor what to fight for, realistically, only an internal collapse similar to what happened to the Soviet Union, can put a stop to this maddness.

I think we should pass a law prohibiting Martians from having rocket ships. We don't know if they're are friendly, or if they even exist, but better safe than sorry.

yes, this touchy-feely stuff pervades the logic of
the left -- like their affinity for compassionate fairness....
I can be compassionate and fair when I give the local
food kitchen (free food for the homeless) a thousand
dollars, but it doesn't count, because I voted for
Reagan. . doesn't feel right to them. . it turns their
stomach, cuz I don't have the right flavor of
    compassion. -- j

Thanks for the tech, Tech, but I want to know I can at least hit a target 6 feet away with a pocket pistol.
At that range with that derringer, I could take aim at a bad cowboy's hat and make him dance.

Injury/death by government edicted drug war has created more injuries/casualties than any other illegal cause, not to mention the innocent bystanders as collateral damage.

    My point exactly.

If you take all the people killed in the world by guns including war period, then look at all the people killed globally by, cars heart disease and other ways, the total by guns does not even rate on the charts.

Their emotional arguments are irrational and devoid of logic, facts or any evidence.

The FBI has statistics by weapon type...

I think it was a difference like 4 moa vs 2 moa. The older mini-14's that I fired at the range were adequate, but could have been improved.

Lots of discussions about it online. Just google search for it. The manufacturing process was changed in 2005 at Ruger arguably to improve the accuracy.

I think you might have missed one of the stats. What about deaths or injuries by rifles with over a 10 round magazine? Is there a statistic on that? Perhaps a ban on magazines over 10 rounds might reduce the number of suicides by rifle? Perhaps not.

Or perhaps stats on lives taken by 20 or 50 round magazines (not including combat in a war zone). Would they feel safer with 5 round magazines. Could we save lives in war by going back to single shot weapons? Will the bomb (a big one) ever be a single shot weapon? And what about lives saved by civilians with guns? Or robberies, rapes, muggings, injuries prevented by civilians with guns? How many mothers and/or fathers died because someone didn’t have a gun? I always think about Dr. Suzanna Hupp’s testimony before Congress. She tried to adhere to a stupid law and look what it cost her.

In the article it said, “If a ban …(blah, blah, blah)….. reduces the perceived risk …..…..and makes the public feel safer as a result, that’s a substantial benefit.” WHAT? WHAT? Are you kidding me? A benefit to who, not to me? It’s only a substantial benefit to a few that drank your Kool-Aid.. Who are “they” to tell me how I‘d feel about their stupid laws? Perhaps “they” would really feel safe, if their body guards only carried single shot devices.

How about a ban on heart disease or cancer? Fortunately I have not had to use a gun to prevent anything yet, if you don't count my "tour" in Vietnam. In fact, as I might derive from the article, perhaps I wouldn’t have had to go to Vietnam if we didn’t have guns with magazines. Our leaders might have been able to arm wrestle for a solution to the problem instead.

How safe do you feel when you drive? If there were smaller and much slower cars would you not feel much safer? Perhaps we should start with big cars and let the gun thing work itself out. Of course my Corvette will be grandfathered, won’t it? It’s really not very big, but it’s fast, at least that what they tell me. And maybe they could ban soda over 16 ounces to make us all feel safer. If they ban magazines over 10 rounds, 5 rounds will be next, and soon you’ll be doing target practice with a single round magazine. Think about that.

I am finally glad to see one person at least on this site that has read his book. I have a copy that i bought when it was first published and have re read it recently. He is as intuitive as Ayn Rand was.

Accuracy is a product of multiple factors so generalized answers are always iffy. Consider the length of the barrel, the type and sharpness of the rifling, the ammunition and is it the best for a given firearm, is the weapon sighted in, etc.

What an excellent idea. Let's paint all handguns and rifles bright pink - then no one will be afraid of them anymore. Great idea, strutgatsky.

Another example of how this country is rolling down
toward dictatorship. What use is it to have a Cons-
titution if the people whose job it is to administer
and interpret it just do anything they want, and pre-
tend that it doesn't say what it really does say?

Leonard Peikoff in "The Ominous Parallels"
said that the Constitution could not stop the
trend if its animating principle collapsed.

"Unfortunately, Manion’s brain was overruled by the “feelings” of his fellow appellate judges, Frank Easterbrook and Ann Claire Williams. - " Hmmm, I see a need to retire some judges.

First it was automatic weapons, and now it's magazines over 10 rounds. If they pass this the next thing will be magazines over 5 rounds, and soon you'll be trying to target shoot with a One-Round-Magazine. Can you imagine that? Of course mine will be grandfathered, won't they?

Seems to me that Burger King, McDonald's, and Wendy's, cigarettes, are far more lethal than guns ever will be.

Only suicide by Firearm made the top ten when it came to death by gun.
Assault (death by firearm) was number 14 but includes all gang shootings, pretty much any weapons assault.

    Bureau of Census year 2000.

Type of Accident or Manner of Injury Total Deaths in 2000
All External Causes of Mortality 151,268
Deaths Due to Unintentional (Accidental) Injuries 97,900
    Nontransport Unintentional (Accidental) Injuries 51,151
    Transport Accidents 46,749
    Intentional self-harm 29,350
Other and unspecified land transport accidents 16,850
    Assault 16,765
    Intentional self-harm by firearm 16,586
    Other and unspecified person 15,808
    Car occupant 14,813
    Falls 13,322
Accidental poisoning by and exposure to noxious substances 12,757
    Assault by firearm 10,801
Accidental exposure to other and unspecified factors and sequelae 7,576
    Other and unspecified fall 7,310
Narcotics and psychodysleptics [hallucinogens] n.e.c. 6,139
    Pedestrian 5,870
Intentional self-harm by hanging, strangulation, and suffocation 5,688
Other accidental threats to breathing 5,648
    Intentional self-poisoning 4,859
Other and unspecified drugs medicaments and biologicals 4,693
Other and unspecified means and sequelae 4,159
    Event of undetermined intent 3,819
    Accidental drowning and submersion 3,482
Exposure to smoke, fire and flames 3,377

Inhalation and ingestion of other objects causing obstruction of respiratory tract 3,187
Complications of medical and surgical care and sequelae 3,059
Uncontrolled fire in building or structure 2,776

Now to place their unreasonable emotional response to guns here is the CDC statistics on deaths 2013

Derringers have always been considered a contact weapon for that very reason. Not enough barrel to have a lot of accuracy. Of course, pop some .410 barrels on there, put in shot shells and accuracy is less of an issue.

Although it is still far better used as a contact weapon regardless of what the loads are. Impossible to miss then.

Does a given firearm shoot straight? That is all I care about.
I once bought a cute-looking two shot derringer. I carried it around for months before I thought to try it out.
It hit a target about 12 inches low at point blank range!
I in good conscience could not even sell the thing.
I hurled it down hard on concrete a few times to break it before throwing it away.
At least that crap for a dangerous gun was dirt cheap.

Just another data point to prove that the Constitution no longer exists, except as a museum exibit of ancient artifacts. The Party makes the laws.
