John Taffer: Capitalist Hero

There's a show on Spike tv, usually run in a marathon on Sundays, called "Bar Rescue".
The host/star is John Taffer, and I've said, and still maintain, that he's done more for America's economy the past 5 years than the federal government.
He goes to in-trouble bars; bars that for various reasons are about to go under. The most common reason seems to be the foolish, *emotional* decisions and flaws of the owners.
Taffer has none of that. He's very moved by the hardship stories he hears; he's a people person and cares. But when it comes to running a business and making a bar successful, he's a hardass businessman.
More than once he's told failing bar owners to ditch sentimentality to save their bars. Where they've listened to him, they've prospered. Where they didn't... they didn't.
He's not just making bars successful... he's making capitalists. In later episodes he sometimes has the owners of bars he's rescued act as "plants" to check out his current project before he goes in, and it's pretty obvious that where once they were foolish, now they "get it".
Anyway, I highly recommend anyone who participates here to watch "Bar Rescue" with Jon Taffer. I think it's the kind of show you'd like.

- 1Posted by $ Susanne 12 years, 2 months agoYeah,,, I used to watch Restaurant-Impossible until I realized all Chef Robert was doing was throwing around money and a bit of arrogance (his on-stage trademark, BTW) and propping up a shop that needed what Taffer dispenses in *his* show...| Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink

- 1Posted by $ rockymountainpirate 12 years, 2 months agoI too like this show. He brings in experts in their fields to help with concepts and train the staff. He also finds contractors etc. from Angies List to do construction if needed, so he's keeping the money in the community.| Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink
- 1Posted by $ Susanne 12 years, 2 months agoI ***Like*** John Taffer... Any business owner can learn a lot from Bar Rescue... because the principles (Inventory Control, customer service, proper and dilligent bokkeeping, and Workforce monitoring and training to name a few) are basics no matter if you run a bar or a etail outlet or a factory...| Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink
