Jesus and Mary in the Qur'an
The Qur'an provides over 60 direct references to Jesus. He is called the Messiah and the Son of God. Mary (Maryam) rates 109 mentions, some calling her the Mother of God.
Sorry not to provide the actual Arabic. I had only one community class in the language, so I know a few things, but I am not literate. See here for English and multi-lingual presentations of the Noble Qur'an:

Knowing the Surah (chapter), you can then check the Multilingual Qur'an here: http://quran.al-islam.org/
The thing is, though, that to the Muslims, Jesus ('Iesa) was God and God cannot die. So to them, Jesus did not actually die on the Cross, but only "appeared to be dead." Denying the Resurrection, and therefore the Mystery of God and Man in the Person of Christ, Muslims face Christians across a gulf.
However, note, also that within Christianity the Arian, Manichean, and Albigensian heresies were no less divisive. Moreover, Arianism leads directly to the Unitarians, whom we accept. On the modern frontiers of faith the Mormons have gained acceptance as a valid form of Christianity. Certainly, Mitt Romney was not denounced as a heretic by the Christian Right.

I don't think that. All religious people I know are moderates. It's commentators and politicians who want people hating their neighbors over religious differences.| Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink
