Leadership and courage
Dramatis personae:
-King Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
-Flight Lieutenant Muath al-Kasasbeh of the Royal Jordanian Air Force
-A 'head of state' of a once powerful and respected nation
-Various savages and sycophants, onlookers, victims, and future victims
Islamic state released a 22-minute video described as a sophisticated and professional production. It showed how they killed the Jordanian air force prisoner. This occurred during negotiations to include this prisoner in a swap.
The King responded, he did not see his job as promoting pluralism. He ordered the execution of two ISIS prisoners already on death row, then gave orders to his air force. After the return of the sortie with the planes flying overhead he announced his decisions.
The response of the 'head of state' was to go to the National Prayer Breakfast and condescendingly advise us to "remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ". Then continued with,
" Aaand it, I think, will redouble [pause] the vigilance aaand determination on the part of our global coalition to, uh, make sure that they are degraded and ultimately defeated. Ummmm. [Adopting a whimsical look] It also just indicates the degree to which whatever ideology they’re operating off of, it’s bankrupt. [Suppressing a smirk, pivoting to a much more important subject.] We’re here to talk about how to make people healthier and make their lives better.”

The cage and prisoner were doused in petrol, then set alight.
Flight Lieutenant al-Kasasbeh stood stiff and dignified as the
flames consumed him. And then he dropped,
the ISIS cameras rolled on, until what was left was
charred black as charcoal and shapeless and
unrecognizable as human.

I had imagined that the first black American President would be a firebrand in the mold of Martin Luther King, able to stir our passions and unite us against the evils that beset our world, but instead we get a pathetic mumbler who has to be fed his lines from a teleprompter, and is a lousy basketball player and golfer.
