Perhaps because they are more about protesting them the real issue. That and the Mall is more comfortable!
like the millions who claimed to have gone to Woodstock and never did, some people are more about saying the were "there" rather than being effective.

It's warmer in the mall and more people to disrupt.

These Noodle-necks up here are only bright enough to conjure up obstruction. Scream and bitch at the top of their lungs and never make any point other than "We are disturbed / upset." and offer no productive path to solution of solving these feelings. Pretty much the same all over?

I am going to guess that daytime high temperatures probably had something to do with it..

Some just thrive on being the center of attention.

My biggest question is.. why protest in a mall? If you have an issue with police, why not protest outside a police station or city hall? Screaming at people who have absolutely nothing to do with what you are protesting about seems like a complete waste of time.
