Hi Gulch, my name is Ken. I'm a 49 yr old living in Alabama. Many of you have seen my comments over the past couple weeks or so I'm sure.
I guess you could call me an unreconstructed Southerner, but please don't take this to mean I harbour racist views. I feel the fall of America started with the War Between the States and has continued with the formation of the Federal Reserve, the popular election of Senators and the removal of the gold standard being major factors. I guess if you had to put me in a box you could say I am a Constitutionalist.
I have always been an underachiever so going Galt is more a continuation of my life than a commitment to Objectivism. I am well read and largely self-taught in my beliefs in that I have relied on myself to decide from available information rather than accepting someone else's views.
I strive to be self-sufficient and not a burden to others. I generally take the attitude of "I'm not going start a fight, but I will finish one if I have to."
You can say I'm right or wrong, but I ceased voting the day Dole was chosen to run against Clinton. I knew then that neither of the major parties fit my ideology.
You may notice in my posts that I invariably use British spellings for words. I started this in middle school and would tell my teachers I would spell their way when they called the course American instead of English.
I'm a recreational gold prospector, a sustenance farmer, a hunter and a Harley owner. I'm also very verbose so I think I'll stop here, but feel free to ask any questions and I'll consider answering.

Why do you consider yourself an underachiever? Why is galting (shrugging) underachieving? Please spell this out. Include tactics, plan, happiness factor (oh, and go put the answer on LetsShrug's post on shrugging, please, because this is interesting). Tell us something interesting about the gold prospecting, if you would like. For example, have you bought shares/ownership in a mining claim(s)? Why would you forgo the right of voting, even with disillusionment? Did you enjoy the AS movies?
