Dad not allowed to save son.

This is amazing. The government is happy because (in the name of keeping us safe) they taze a father a few times, including while he's cuffed in the car, restrict his freedom and help kill a child. Yeay for the government. As a father I'm disgusted by this. I know what the nanny state people will say, "Hey could have died going back in there." Well, that's his choice. It was his son. I know what I would have done.

If the house was too hot for firefighters to enter then he probably would not have made it into the house. I see no reason to taze him.

Regarding the Dad, I think his attempt at saving his son may have had something to do with parental instinct, no matter what the circumstances. Stupid cops interfered.

Instinct seems to be a hot topic tonight. I'm glad my teenagers are home.

They definitely should not have interfered. He will be haunted by this for life. I would want to do everything possible. The firefighters will do everything safely within reason.

I would add to the comments below - what has this really achieved? Presumably the Taser was used to reduce the risk that the father died, also presuming that the police assumed that his returning to the burning house was reckless . Here's a thought. What if a clever lawyer can show that there's as a chance that the father MAY have saved his son, and MAY have returned safely? In this case, the action of using a Taser has resulted in definitely losing one life, against possibly saving a life. How is this an improvement? How can this action be justified? How can it be defended?

Unfortunately, we live in a litigious society. If the fire fighters had not stopped the father (tazing seems extreme) and he entered the house and died, the fire department would be liable. As a parent, I completely understand and empathize with the stepfather's choice. it's a tragedy.

To me the bottom line is that it was the Dad's life to do with as he pleased. If he was willing to die trying to save his son's life he should have been allowed to do so. We let people die in war don't we!

I have been in fires, and I can tell you, he would not have made it in there before being burned alived. They both would have died. They should have restrained him, but not tazed him. If he was handcuffed in the police car, he is not going anywhere, no need to taze him, that is going to far. I understand his wanting to save his son, but he would have died too.

Those cops should be fired and charged for accessory to manslaughter. A father has a right to save his son at any cost, even dying. As a father, if it ever happened to me, I think it would be best to stay the f out of my way.

My sentiments, exactly. I'd bring the wrath...

This country is in very serious trouble, that we'd accept this type of thing. Heads should roll.
