Pronunciation of "Rearden"

I have notice a common recurring typo of "Reardon" for Hank's last night and am trying to determine the source. When you read Atlas Shrugged, how did you pronounce "Rearden." Was the last vowel sound short and sharp (e/i) or long and low (o)?

Rearden was one thing ... Reardin for me when I was reading ... What about Dagny? :) ... I was always wondering whether there was a silent letter from a foreign language origin... I was pretty happy once the movie came out and there I was pronouncing it correctly in my head.

I'm one of the misspellers. Yikes. Thanks for pointing it out. However, I would pronounce either spelling the same. With a short i sound, "in" at the end. Tom(a)to, tom(ah)to. :)
