Atlas Shrugged Part II Change of QActors

For some reason, 'search' won't work so I cannot directly respond to yesyerday's post converning the reason for the change of actors for Part 2.. The post contained a link that explained it all "Why is there a new cast fo Atlas Shrugged Part 2?"

The answers in short, that many of you may know, are the time constraints and couldn't contract for the same actors when it wasn't known when or if Part 2 would be made. Not only were the actors change but the production crew, as they called it "a clean sweep."

Also, the but more importantly, the movie's focus is on the main character, "the world." For that reason, the casting of actors was secondary.

Also, it seems that Part 3 will yet again cast different actors for the same reasons. The article was written by David Kelley, founder and chief intellectual officer of the Atlas Society. Enough said on my original question concerning the actor changes. But, you have to admit, the actor playing Dagny (Taylor Schilling) in Part I was dead on. But I have to go with the person with the definitive knowledge, David Kelley

Lastly, in the opinion of Kelley, Part 2 was much better with the changes.

The part of Francisco, at least in parts One and Two, is tricky to play. The actor has to act a character acting. The character is honest but is not ready to tell all so has to accept what he says being misunderstood. I thought part One was ok but in the Dave Kelly episodes the part Two chap is good - the Latin confidence without arrogance, and clear and precise in what he says.
Dave Kelly is great in his explanations.
I am looking fwd to seeing how Eddie Williers and Cheryl Brooks come out. The brilliance of Rand is showing how such normal people -reliable, ethical- suffer under policies claimed to be in their interests, the parasites prosper, while the super heroes can survive.

I'm not sure I agree with your last statement. yes, the "super heroes" will survive. did you really have any doubt? But the Eddies and Cheryls can also survive, happily. Both of those characters possess fatal flaws, and they are a cautionary tale for all of us.you can let others control you, or you can take control. there is always a choice. eddie was not going to leave that company. his loyalty outpaced acting in his self interest. I know and you know many, many people who remain quiet, even as they know things going on around them aren't right, because they don't want to upset anyone, be too controversial, become a "target." when it becomes too late, they despair. we can just be regular old everyday heroes-not the super variety- and have a rich and rewarding existence, regardless of the parasites

Yeah, I knwo what you mean about being silent. Try being known as a sympathizer of the Tea Party movement in MA. Some think I'm a card carrying member if there is such a card. I attended about three rallys including the Palin one on the Boston Commons. They were all kind of uplifting events. But there's an union shop just down the street, 90% of the workers pass by my place while I'm outside having a beer and a cigar.

I'm a provocative type and so I hung up a TP flag. I just like the design and the historical significance. I was surprised it lasted 2 years before someone took it. I didn't care. Like I said, I was surprised it took so long. But that's small stuff,; I wonder what I'll do when the Sh#t hits the fan.

I wish they would have been able to keep the same actors. Just my "doesn't matter vote". I am impressed that there are that many quality actors that would take the "Hollywood Risk" but in the spirit of Atlas Shrugged I believe that they understood the cost benefit trade-out and made the decisions they felt were in their best interests. I would have clear my schedule to remain a part of the Trilogy. I wish they could have done the same but the story is getting told..

You couldn't type in the search box is that right? What browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox) and operating system (e.g. Windows, Mac) are you using?

Explorer 8. But this only happened today. BTW, I like the articles in the Washington Times and sometimes I can post but most times it says I need Windows Explorer 9. I'm using a company computer, so I have no choice.

On another topic that isn't germain to this discussion, I only watch the Fox News Hours so I can get all the stories. I guess by the mantra "Fox Lies!" they mean that Fox reports news theyd rather not get out. I've stop watching MSM, when I was apolitical, long ago because of the fluff. One can watch the first 5 or 10 minutes of the MSM news' hours and get all the news that's important for the day.

My question is, did the MSM report on the childish action of BHO closing the WH tours. If so, I wonder if they showed the kids facebook video. He's always using kids as props. In this case the kids weren't props but saying or implying on a video pqasted on facebook that the WH is their house and they want to see it.

I have seen previews on this site, (thanks onemanwarrior, etc) my DVD has not crossed the Pacific yet.
What BlueNova says makes sense to me.
I do wish tho' that one or two of the characters were a bit rougher and not so smooth, they are meant to be workers not crony talkers after all.
Dagny II like Dagney I is superb. Hank Reardon likewise and being a bit older looking is more realistic.

You are welcome. I assume you are referrencing the David Kelly bits he did with the Atlas Society. The book Atlas Shrugged and the movie versions are not just entertainment attempts in the way that a James Patterson novel might be viewed. These are works of philosophy explained in the context of a story--which is the most effective way to communicate. Human beings learn much better in "context" which is why The History Channel is having success with their recent Bible episodes, and The Vikings. Like the Hatfield and McCoy series they did during the summer of last year, viewers find they can understand history better through context.

The same is true in philosophy, and Ayn Rand's brilliance is that she was able to examine a new philosophy that goes against the assumed goodness of Immanuel Kant and Plato, and returns society to look again at Aristotle and John Lock -- along with Adam Smith leap frogging over Karl Marx and the fiscal theories of Kensyian economics that are proven to be failures. David Kelly because of the films is able to explain complex theories to a general audiance because now there is context in the form of a visual story for people to relate to. He did some great work with the clips from AS2, and I'm glad you were able to enjoy them. Enjoy the DVD when you get it. It might appear to be simple as a story relative to other stories but the content is extraordinary once the metaphors are understood. We have David Kelly to thank for that.

I forgot to relate an antedote you may find interesting. During a visit to an audiologist, he asked me what book I was reading. When I said "Atlas Shrugged" he retotred, "Oh, that's the one about everyone for themselves." I mentally said "There are really people like him." Fortunately, I was just getting custom ear plugs and not the more important hearing aide. That would have made me wonder if he knew what he was doing-lol.

It could be enjoyed as just a good superficial read, but a long read many wouldn't endure, But knowing the reason d'etre of the book is needed. I think this weekend I'll watch Part I and II end to end to view the movie seamlessly.

BTW, I have surround sound and play it at about 40% (kind of loud). The jet chase scene sounds just blew me away.

Also, the first Franconia seems more of a playboy. But the second Mrs. Readon seemed like she knew what see wanted and got it what see wanted, except for Hank that is.

But having read the reasons for the changes, I see said the blind man. One of the posters, gave me an enlightening article link on why the character changes, entitled "Why is there a new cast for Atlas Shrugged Part 2?"

May I dare sound sexist but Dagney 1 macthed the part because see is tall, slinky, good looking and nice long gams. Part III will have wholesale changes too becuase it's about the movie's reason d'etra and not the actors.
